ABSTRACT: Using more refined data on the triple- scattering polarization and para-
meters (R. Both et al., Phys. Rev. v. 140B, 1533, 1965), the authors have improved on
I their earlier phase shift analysis at 400 M'ev (Yadernaya fizika v. 2, 1095, 1965),
vhich yielded three sets of phase shifts of equal probability as gauged by the X2
criterion. The used more accurate data on the triple-scattering polarization and
parameters caused the first t-wo earlier solutions to merge, and the errors of the
. e shifts have been slightl_y reduced. Both sets of phase shifts are characterized

by the fact that an imaginax-f part is possessed only by the phase shift of the 1D2
wave. The imaginary parts of the 3P and 3F phases are small and do not the

quantities on the scattering angle; these are reported in a separate preprint (JIM,
E-2743, Dubna, 1966). It is seen from the results that to eliminate the ambiguity of
the phase shift analysis at 400 Mev it is necessary to carry out at least one experi-
ment on triple np scattering. The planning of such an experiment and the determina-
tion of the optimal angle at which the measurements must be made are described in a
report by Lehar et al. (JIM, E-2332, Dubna, 1966). It turns out that under the ex-
isting conditions the most effective means of eliminating the aforementioned ambiE ity
is to measure the parameters D and A at c.m.s. angles 60 and 55* respectively. The
authors thank E. Dudova, N. V. Volchkorva, T. D. Timofeyeva, and Ya. Fingerova for help

ABSTRACT: A new device for measuring the angular positions of particle
tracks photographed by a standard 35-mm campra is described. A frame,
which has been magnified lOx, is projected onto a translucent screen-,
on the device. Parallel lines are plotted over the surface of the
screen (3 mm patch). The operator rotates the screen manually until
the track is parallel with the lines on the screen. A special 11-bit
code wheel attached to the screen then converts the screen position intc
Cray code, which can be recorded by a perforator on five-channel paper
tape. The tape is fed into the M-20 computer for data processing. The
~device processes 1000 frames/hr if 10% of the frames are selected for

ABSTRACT: The compound antigens from bacteria of the enteric group, used at
present for specific prophylaxis, are prepared by tryptic decomposi-
tion of the microbe culture and are purified by hydrodialysis after
precipitation with spirit. Hydrodialysis, however, does not purify
the antigens sufficiently of mineral impurities and, in an attempt
to find a better method of purification the authors turned to ion
exchanger resins. Soviet scientists are quoted as evidence that the
resins possess purifying propertlesz F.G. Frokhorov, P. Kreych, G.I.
Silin, I.E. ApeVtsin, I.P. Losev, R. Kunin, et al. The tests were
carried out with SM-1 cationite forte and EDE-10-P anionite forte,
The test objects were liquid fractions of tryptic hydrolysates of
Salmonella typhosa, Salmonella paratyphosa, shigella flexneri and

tion can be out to 1-2 hours, instead of the 3-4 days required by
hydrodialysis. Examination of the purified antigens revealed that
they had an ashcontent 6-8 times less than with hydrodialysis, con-
tained more reducing substances and had a higher serological and
immunogenic activity. Some rise in toxicity, especially with Shigella
sonnei antigen, was noted.
