TITLE: Possibility of observing ferroacoustic resonance at low frequencies
SOURCE; Fizika tverdogo tela, v. 8, no. 11, 1966, 34oo-34o2
TOPIC TAGS: magnetoacoustic effect, magnetization, ferromagnetic material, magneto-
elasticity, ferrodielectric, magnetic anisotropy, dispersion equation, magnetic
do,main structure
ABSTRACT: The ailthor considers the possibility of observing a ferroacoust'ic reso-
nance similar to the ferromagnetic resonance ahich is observed when a constant mag-
netic field is applied in the direction of difficultmagnetization to a ferromagneticl
crystal of uniaxial or cubic syrmnetry. To this end, the problem of magnetoelastic
interaction is solved for an infinite magnetic uniaxial ferrodielectric with aniso-
tropy of the "easy plane" type with the constant magnetic field directed along the I
difficult axis. The interaction of a circularly polarized spin wave and a transverse
ela:stic wave, both propagating along the z axis, is considered. A dispersion equa-
tion is derived and it is shown that by suitable choice of the applied external field
it is possible to lower the point of intersection of the spin and acoustic branches
to the low-frequency region. The effect of finite sample dimensions and creation of
f
a domain structure is then taken into account. It is concluded that observation o

ferroacoustic resonance at frequencies 107 109 Cps is feasible in theory. Die fre-
quency limit of the theoretical calculations is briefly discussed. The author thanksi-

;TITLE: A random function generator for studying reliability and efficiency of marine
systems
1SOURCE: Ref. zh. Kibernetika, Abs. 12G458
REF SOURCE: Izv. Len-,*.ngr. elekt@otekhn. in-ta, vyp. 56, ch. 3, 1966, 69-73
TOPIC TAGS: random process, marine engineering, system reliability, electronic
simulation
@ABSTRACT: Sw=ary of the report. The authors propose a random function, generator for
,simulating irregular motion of the sea. This generator may be used for studying the
reliability of a wide class of marine systems. The random process was radioactivity
which was recorded by an STS-5 counter incorporated in a set of GS-1 gas counters.
The stream of pulses resulting from registration of the radioactivity conforms to
Poisson distribution. However, averaging in a scaling circuit with regard to back-
ground effect gives a stream with distribution approaching normal. In this case,
lRayleigh law should be realized for amplitude values. The proposed generator as a
whole may be used for producing a random function which simulates surface waves on
I
the sea with regard to ship motion and course angle with respect to the path of the
I
,waves. 3 illustrations, bibliography of 1 title. G. V. (Translation,of abstract)

Title : Formulas for the Heat Capacity of Nitric Oxides Over a
Broad Range of Temperatures
Orig Pub : Tr. Ivanovsk,. khim.-tekhnol. in-ta) 1956, Vol 5, 43-45
Abstract Formulas have been obtained for thecalculation of the
heat capacities of NO(I), N20 (II) 'and N02 (III) over
a wide range of tenperatures, based on spectroscopic
data. The formulas are expressed in the form C 91 - C P0
IT 1,aT @- bT21, where - is the vibration
frequency and i-f is the Einstein function for one degree
of fruedum. Tho laut two terns expresn the correction
for anharmonicity and other deviations from the n6dol of
the rigid rotator and the harmonic vibrator.

A.BSTP4CT: laterglow of ZnS phosphors is explained in Ref 1, using Adirovich's
law (Ref 2) supplemented by taking temperature quenching (Ref 31 into
account. For the majority of ZnS phosphors the decay lavis can be
approximated by hyperbolae near tho quenching region and they become
exponentials lu the quenching region itself. According to Adirovich
+he value of %, uhich is the ratio of localization and recombination
probabilities, is greater than 1 near quenching and it approaches zor-.

at tima t, anl p -which is the probability of tharmal libar"-tion of
localized electrons. Real phosphors usually contain locallzatiou levels
of several dapt@s and at least two types of omission cantres. Undor
certain spacial conditions , hovever, a real phosphor may beha-e as if
it-was ideal, i.e. it -will contain localization levels of one depth only
and onl-.,, one type of emission centres. Under such conditions the
value of J'can be detemined using the authora I formulae. For the
ZnS-W phosphor studied here it vas found that it behaves as an ideal
phos@hor above 2750K provided the intensity of excitation is sufficiently
high. To find the absolute valuas of I at various temperatures decay
curves -nere obtained. From them the afterglcm brightness and the
corresponding light-sums -were obtained and the value of 8 var, calculated.
The temperature dependence of X is given as curve 1 in Fig 1. Gurve 2

requires enarGy which is provided here via thermal vibrations.
Generally speaking the results of Fig 1 confirm Adirovich's theory
(Ref 2). The value of S was found to be Indopendent of tho excitation

This is because at low excitatioa enarzios localization levels of
more than one @depth exist and the theory given horu no low-ar applies.

the layer-base adhesion strength depend also on the testing method. 'To establi!:-h
the dependence of numerical values of adhesion strength of a steel layer with
the base metal, four sets of cylindrical samples of an equal diameter were
prepared. The preparation of samples, the metal coating and the subsequent L"I
machining were carried out under the same conditions. The adhesion strength
was determined by four different methods. Four sets of h-f heat treated sairpleS
were subjected to similar tests. The experimental data obtained show the
