Some figures are given. The influence of the speed of the plane is discussed. A de-icing.device utilizing the hot air of the compressor is circumstantially described. The article contains also a series of suggestions addressed to the pilots, as to how to avoid the icing. One sketch. Institution : None Submitted : No date yU_qn7icH, m., inzh. Supersonic speeds. Izd-vo Nauka. 1966. 38-103 'TOPIC TAGS: ocean dynamics, oceanographic equipment$ goomorphology !ABSTRACT: From 1962 to 1964 the Institute of Oceanology AN SSSR investigated the 1hydrodynamics of shallow coastal areas in the Baltic Sea to determine the nature of surface wave transformation during different disturbance stages, to measure the angle ;of an approaching wave and to study the distribution of wave pressures and speeds in !relation to an underwater slope. Investigations were carried out with the use of wave! !pressuro recorders, wave recorders, wave velocity recorders, current motors, turbidity! :measurirg oquipment,,-labelled sands, and sediment cores. Study data show that wind is!- the primary cause of most disturbanoo3. The specific energy of a wave sharply iinereases as it approaches the shore; the maxbml values of vave height and specific energy are observed during the stability phase of a distu.-aanaae In analyzing !--Card ACC NR: AT7001794 'hydrodynamic processes-in coastal areas it is necessary first to identify the disturbance phases and to consider all changea within the limits of the pihase. 7he iactive zone of shifting sediments extends to depths of 10 m. The intensity of isediment exchanges between separate parts of an underwater slope is determined by the i'intensity of corresponding water exchanges. Change of coast contour, amount of ,sed~.mentation, and sediment composition is determined. first. by the relationship of ifactor:; responsible for the nature, direction, and intensity of material shifting; :.second, by the duration of a disturbance, particularly the~.Iength of each phase; and, ;third, by the availability of materials in the area under study and adjoining areas. :'Ori . art. hass 18 figures and 8 tables. TITLE., Diffusion*of Silver Into Cuproue OxideO PERIODICAL: Fizika tverdogo tela, 1960, Vol. 2, No. 4, pp. 624-628 TEXT: Cuprous 8xide was prepared from purified-oopper and atmospheric -oxygen at 1,030,C.-The orystal-surfaces were etohe4, and a thin layer of radioactive AgI10 was eleatrolytioallg applied to athem. The diffusion of silver into ouproue oxide between 800 0 and 1,050 C was examined in nitro- gen atmosphere or in vacuo. After quenching of the ouprous oxideg thin layers were taken from the crystal, and their gamma activity was measured. From this the authors determined the silver content by means of a calibra- tion curve (Fig. 1). The following temperature dependence was found for the coefficient of silver diffusion into single cry tale o cuproue oxide -_ __ ____ - [ ___.2763Oj_,3m2/seco --Two regions are Vigo 2) M-0.6.1o exp - Cu O(single) RT distinguished forIdiffusion into pol-rarystalline material: UP to 8500Cs the Card 1/2 V~ 81952 Diffusion of Silver Into CuDrous Oxide 5/181/60/002/04/11/034 B002/BO63 pro-exponential factor equals 0-20,10-40M2/sec, and above this point it. equals 0..5010-2 om 2/seo (F ig. 3): ~D 2 MLO MMO m /0004 0(poly)! 0-56 10- exp + 6-24-10 a xp 0 2 C U2 RT The diffusion of silver into single crystals and polycrystalline material above 8500C takes place via the free oopper.sites of the lattice.
