TITLE: of the Iron Ore Deposits of Georgia (K voprosu -formirovaniya odnogo iz zhelezci-udnykh mestorozhdeniy Gruzii) PERIODICAL: Tr. Gruz. p,)litekhn. in-ta, 1956, Nr 3 (44), pp 88-93 ABSTRACT: In the area of the deposit, the rigid crystalline substratum Js covered by thin-vein depositu of Lias stone, volciinic formations of the Bajocian and a thick - strattim -of -volcanic-,f ormations- and 1 Imestones of the Midd'.o and Upper Crotaceous pariod. The ore substances c';re located chiefly in the axial, part and in the northern limb of the sloping, latitudinal anticline ard are correlated chiefly with the tuff- aceous breccia, more rarely with the tuff, and, as Card 1/2 15-5'/-8-11219 Formation of One of the Iron Ore Deposits (Cont.) the exception, with the blinket deposits of the albitophyres of the Turoniart-Cognacian. The o:!-e substances have an ir.Tegular lenticular for-in; on the whole, they lJ.e concordant with the host rock, rarely occupying an intersecting ~;)osition. They consist of advancing nests of mixed ore and sections i:-f more or less thick dissemination which gradually passes into unmineralized rock. The basic ore: mineral is hematite, accompanied by pyrite and a very small amount of chal- copyrites Sometimes magnetite is present. Minciralization is ac- companied by quartz, chlor-Ae, calcite, siderite, garnet, epidote, actinolite, plagioclase, arid sericite. The mineral composition cf the ores and the changed enclosing rock distinctly indicate that they are the re8ult of a single process. The formation of ores occurred by metasomatic sh!-fting of rock-forming mineraLs as a result of their interactior. with hydrothermal solutions lenetrating into the rock along pre-ore. tectonic fissures. TITLE: A method of measurement of the speed of propagation of shock waves PERIODICAL: Revue de mecanique appliqu& v. 7. no. 1, 1962. 173-183 TEXT. Described it a nitthad of velocity measurement of waves propaliulng in a shock tite. The meti- surement is based on registration of the time interval bctwtcn the mom,mts of passing of the wave across two fixed marks 700 m apart. The instant of passage of the wave is detectece, by special capa(ity transducers with very low inertia. A special oscillographic chronograph was developed for measurement of the time interval. It employs a spiral time base and the measured tirrc intcryal,'Al, is rcprcscnted by an are of the spiral given by 9) = 21rfAr, m1hcref is the frequency (2000 cps in the present case) of the voltages which form the time base and rp is the central angle of the spiral arc. Tht probable accuracy of the method is 0.3%; the main sources of error are a) inaccuracy in the estimation of the spiral are length, b) inequalky of the ampli- tudes of the two voltages which form the spiral time base, c) deviation of the phase shift between these voltages from 90', d) presence of harmonics in the time base voltages, e) dependence of the sensitivity of one pair of the deflecting plates upon the voltage impressed upon the other pair, andf) errors re:i0ting from the modulation process of the voltages which form the spiral time base. (III-Praian Vuia" Institute of Applied Mechanics of the Humanian Academy) on a method of measuring- the velocity of shock waves produced by tho shock tube of the UlAq as well as on the do7elopment of the corrisponding electronic"instrLL7~ents. The 6 1 -erval bet- averago velocity is measured by dcterinining the time int ,yean the pa:~~uagu of the wave in front of two wave detectors, pl,3- cod alQn:- the ahock tube at a distance of '700 rnm from (.-ac~i cavd 1/7 Y r 23036 A method of measuring 1?,/Ooa/6 i i 11 /o i i D237/D301 For this purpose special wave detectors with a solid dielectric wero developed, having a very high natural -frequency and a low response tJrro, ranging between 2 and 5 /Asec. Tho T,MA al:.oc:c tube may produce streams with 1112 'Jach numbers, varying betvicen 0 and 5.31, which correspond to a proparration velocity of the lNe iniltial shock wave varying between 1 and 3.5. Thus, ~-the electronic spot describes a circle on the screen. Before re- aeasing the, phenomenon in.the shqck tube, the-intensity of the alct -y limit.:The moment the is very low, being 'below the visibilit shook wava passes in front of the wave detectors, two e1ectric sig- nals are produced which are amplified and processed by two chains of amplifiers which act on the electronic relay; the relay contrcils 'the lighting and the extinguishing of the cathode tube s 'pot; The gradu- electronic relay alzo acts on. the moC.ulation circuit, whi ally reduces the amplitude of the deflection voltages. Thus the electronic spot does not move airy more on a circlo, but describcio a luminous spiral arc, which is photographed.
