cuss the necessity to provide personnel and apparatus to perform
certain specialized duties in certain locations, within the pro-
mise of a pharmacy. In the caseof eyedrops,details of the num-
ber of proscriptions handled and the number of hpurs required to
handle these and the necessity to provide specific facilities
for this purpose are discussed. An average Sof 520 daily prescrip-
tions should be handled at such a station. imilar details for
the location of such facilities at hospitals are reviewed. 7

sbandarU questionnaire was used to determina the provalence-of
chronic bronchitis in man aWd 60-64 years living in the district
of Prague 2. A sample of.40 man was solocted for X-ray and
clinical examination. "Chronic bronchitis" was detected in 27.6%
of th6 exw*inod men. The incidence was clearly rolat~~d to smok-~
ing. The socially wealcar rnen, and those performing strenuous,
phynical work also showed a higher incidence# being heavier smoxers
at tho same time. The relationship between pulmonary infection
and the epidemiological diagnosis of chronic' bronohitis is dis-

traction process is repeated. The aqueous extracts are combined.,

TEXT: A frequent task in aerodynamic and hydrodynamic
measurements is the determination of the total static and
dynamic pressure and the local direction of the flow at
various points. For this purpose, three-hole cylindrical
probes (Fig. 1) are used most frequently for measurements
in two-dimensional subsonic flows. The central holo will
measure directly the total pressure p c if the reference
pressures pl and p" are equal (pal = P11 r- pm) . This
a
position of the probe also indicates the direction of flow.
The static pressure can be determined by means (if the

The validity of this equation remains unchanged if the
absolute pressures p are substituted by the pressuire

or any other comparison pressures. Consequently, the

calibrating in an air flow at atmospheric pressure. If a
large -number of measurements have to be made, calculation
of the static pressure p s by means of Eqs. (2) and (3)
becomes very 4orious. In earlier work (Refs. 6, 7) the

the static pressure which can be used directly-as-ind;Lcators
of this parameter. Fig. 3 shows a schematic sketch oX a
static pressure indicator with two liquids, which was
designed by the author of this paper and built and tested by
Engineer Peprni and his team at the engineering research
labor&tories of Zavod V.I. Leraina (V.1. Lenin Works), Pilsen.
The operation of this instrument is based on Eq. (3). It has
three U-shaped tubes with arms 1-11, 2-20, 3-31, which are
fixed parallel to each- other on acommon vertical or inclined
flat base D . Tile tube 2-21 is fille4 with alcohcol dyed
red of the specific gravity YL and indicates the pressure
difference PC - Pa . The tube 1-11 is filled with a blue
aqueous solution of CuS04 of the specific weight YR and
indicates the'total over-pressure 4 PC = PC - PO . The
static over-pressure 4Np. = ps - PO will then be proportional

to the difference between the heights of the blue arid red
-columns and can easily be followed by means of mobile scale
S with divisions in appropriate units. If ps = Po I the
difference 0 - ?a must also be zero. Most frequently,

3-31 is for indicating the correct setting of the cylindrical

combination of liquids and various cross-sections of the
prossure-gauge tubes, it is possible to use this inctrument

indicating the measured pressure values. Due to noruniformities
in the tube diameter, measuring errors of 1-21,~ are introduced
but still more accurate results can be obtained by using
calibrated burettes. Static-pre5sure indicators designed on
the basis of the here described principles can be simply and
easily manufactured and are suitable for numerous practical
tasRs in experimental aerodynamics and hydrodynamics
