TEXTi Since literature data on the formation of alkali earth
tungstenates of the type Me3WO6 differ, the authors chooked the
possibility of the formation of the above salt by the thermal
analysis method, using apparatus of the Kurnakov type. The
procedure consisted of recording the thermal curves for pure
barium and calcium carbonate and their mixtures with veirious
ration of the components, and subsequently recording the thermal
curves of a mixture of carbonates -with tungsten trioxide. The
extent of the reaction could be assessed from the position and
depth of the peaks. It was found that tho reaction between barium
and calcium carbonates and tungsten trioxide begins at about
300 OC and proceeds with the evolution of heat. On subsequent

heating to 1100 OC tungsten anhydride reacts only with tin amount
of carbonates which corresponds to the formation of HeW04, where
Me - an alkali earth metal. This was observed on the basis of
peaks of polymorphic transformation of carbonates which disappear
only when the ratio of tungsten atoms to alkali earth in(stals is
lil. The problem of the possibility of formation of tungstenates
with a different ratio of oxides at a higher temperature was not
solved as the apparatus used could not operate at higher
temperatures.
