TEM The Uralkhimmash plant has designed and manufactured a gas-cutting
rotary machine-tool (see figure' for machining bottom rims# shells, rings
500-5200 mm in diameter, and for cutting shell sections (up to 3000 mm high)
into rings of arbitrary, width.
The table (1) has a diameter'of 3500 mm and four T-shaped slots. In order
to improve the centering of the work pieoe, concentric graduation lines with
a 100 mm. spacing ware out into the table. Since the diameters of the work
pieces are larger than the table-diameter, extension pieces are used. The
table is centered by means of a conical pin (2). The table is; mounted on
on six roller supports (3) which are shaped like a truncated cone, and is
rotated by an electric motor through the gear (6) of the reducing gear (5)
meshed with the tooth rim (4). The gear of the reducing-gear shaft is

engaged with the end gear of the multiple-variation reducing device which
may be switched over to operations with the following ratios: ltl, li3, 1:9,
and 1:22. The cutter is mounted in the carriage seat (8) with a rack pin-
ion-shaft on the end of which a wing nut in fastened regulating the clearance
between cutter and cut metal. When machining inner and outer edges, the V
carriage and cutter can be adjusted to the required angle. A copying roller
(9) is provided for copying the surface of work pieces. The telescopic
arrangement of pipes (12) permits the cutter to approach the rotation center
of the work piece (table), i.e. at a distance of 250 mm, and move away from
it to a distance of 2000 mm. The bearing sleeve of the telescopic pipe
arranfement is made of one piece with a support (13), moving on a vertical
prop 16) by means of a pilot wheel (15). The control panel of the machine-
tool is located at the operator's platform (10) which can move towards the
center of the table by means of the pilot wheel (11). When machining work
pieces with a diameter of more than 4000 mm, the working platform can be ad-
justed at an angle of up to 900 to the lifting rod. A worm-type reducing
gear (17) rotated by the electric motor (18)moves the rod with the cutter tip..
and the platform. The described machine-tool can also machine stiffening
rings and supporting rings of up to 5200 mm in diameter without subsequent

On a total of 16,677 patients in an 8-year period only 29 cases of closed traunlao,
tile kidneys were observed (0. l7c,o). The degree to which the kidney vessels r
c
led with blood, and the pelvis with urine, is essential. as shown by KUster's ex. j
pertmental investigations. Clinical symptoms are: dull pain, shock, palpable tu.
mour and haematuria. Tile degree of tile lesion of the kidney and its functional efft.
ciency may be inferred from an i.v, urography; this, however. not until tile shock
symptoms cease. It should be borne in mind that deformation of the calyces and tv4'
renal pelvis may be caused by a haematoma in tile renal region. Better results ar,
achieved by retrograde pyclography which gives more information as to the grade
of the lesion and the indication for surgical treatment. No infection was obSQr,.,td.
Treatment is usually conservative. Only in case of a palpable tumour (haernatomi):
is surgical intervention indispensable. Saving the kidney should be attempted In
every case by stopping the haemorrhage. by suturing the rupture and by partial
nephrectomy, provided undisturbed passing of urine in possible. Only in 5 out of
29 cases was surgery necessary.

This in a very detailed study of 191 cases of acute Intestinal obstruction in the
courac of 9 yr. 122 patients were trcated with operation and G9 with conservative
measures. The aurr-tcal procedure consisted of removal of the obstacle. In cases
where there viao doubt as to the viability of the occluded portion, partial. rensection
with end-to-end anaitomosia was performed. In ilco-coccal inviination riflit hemi-
colectomy was performcd. The mortality rate In patients witli disturbance!; In mcs-
entery circulation (Mran."ulatio) was 28.2 %. In patients without this complication
(obturatio, atrictura intestini) 9.31,4. The author prefurs spinal anaccAhesia ffi cases

Abstracti (Author's English summary] Culture fluids of
Clostridium perfringens type A cultures were salted out
with 6oo g/liter ammonium sulphate. Twenty six fractions
were isolated by starch electrophoresis. DN-aso and phos-
phatase activities of each fraction were tested, The Clostr.
perfr. phosphatase was most active at pM 6.0 and inactive
at a pH higher than 7.2, i.e., under conditions where
the activity of the DN-ase was evident. More are eight
(8) references, of which three (3) each are Polish and
'English, and one (1) each are Russian and Swiss.
