added, the mixture is diluted to 100 ra water water,
and I is determined polarographically. III is de-
termIned polarographically in the aqueous phase
rearaining as a residue after extraction, after which

Abstract [Authors' English sunmary, modified]: The hazard was
assessed according to the 3,4-benzpyrene content in the atmos-
phere. Polycyclic hydrocarbons are formed in foundries as a re-
sult of incomplete combustion of inorganic substances contained
in molding mixtures. An increasedhazard was found in the shop
where molding mixtures were prepared. Dust from such shops
contains as much as 4.64 millirrams of 3,4-henzpyrene per kilo-
gram. An admixture of coal pitch increased the hazard sub-
stantially in comparison to dry caeting. This was the reason
why the use of coal pitch in foundries was prohibited. Four

Abstract:(Authorst Ehglish abstract modified) Cast Iron fittings
that are protected from rusting by a layer of pitcoal tar during
their manufacturing operationa are a cause of health danger, be-
cause Uliore is a risk that canceroggenous 3,1~-benzopyrene will
be released to atmosphere. In the machining workshop a definite
presence was found in the atmosphere, and some traces were found
in neighborin workshops and housing units. During the machining
operations 289 micrograms per cubic meter were found; this high
content was due to a very high rate of metal cutting at the time.

In a 62-year-old male a disease with predominantly cerebral symptoras due to a
large abscess in the mesencephalon occurred 3 months before death. Clinical course
and-development of the CSF changes are described and analysed. Anatomical and
histological pictures of the case are given. The aetiological agens, Nocardia aster-
oidea. was established in the cerebral abscess, in granulomas on the brain ventri-
cles, in the purulent inflammation of the meninges and In the previously doveloped
pulmonary abscess from which, moot probably, the process metastaoized Into the
CNS. The cultivative, tinctorha and other biologicaL properties of the strain found
are reported including its sensitiveness to antibiotics.
