Mechanical tachometers and tachometer generators which are used for rpm measurements require a torque comparable with that of the micromachine proper; stroboscopic apparatus is expensive, cumbersome, and requires experienced service personnel. In the new electromagnetic measuring method, the rotor of Card 1 /Z SOV/112-59-2-3111 Developing and Putting into Operation an Experimental Electromagnetic Device . . . an electromagnetic primary element is slipped on the spindle of the micro- machine; the rotor consists of one sheet of armature-type 40-50-mm steel and has 1Z dents. The revolving rotor changes the reluctance of the primary- element magnetic circuit; the resulting EFM frequency is proportional to the speed of rotation of the micromachine. The frequency is measured by a balanced circuit including a Wien-Robinson bridge and a zero indicator. Measurement error is 1. 5-216. The instrument has a iiumber of scale spans, and the rpm range can be set by selecting the bridge capacitors. The instrument is simple and reliable; its development continues. A. V. K. The statistical ana- i lyzer does not distinguish the boundary shifts (from the ideal position) due to :1 'edge distortions from shifts due to fractionations. In the absence of bias, it fixes the boundaries in identical consecutive intervals -0.5 to-t- +0-5 to (t being the duration of the code pulse).
