handbook in the organization and performance of mining blasting op-
erations.
COVERAGE: This book covers the general topic of liquid oxygen explo-
sives, also called oxyliquits, used in the USSR and abroad. The

.physicochemical properties of oxyliquits are described, as well as
the manufacture of cartridges with the use of various absorbents.
Blasting operations, safety procedures, and liquid oxygen tech-
niques are also included. Much attention is given to the oxy-
liquits with peat as the absorbent which were used in the Norillsk
open-pit operations from 1942 - 1956, where the authors were
employed at that time. The authors participated in the study of
new explosives and of their industrial application. The tech-
nique of blasting with oxyliquits is described in detail for the
case of percussion-cable drillir4g. A comparative evaluation of
oxyliquits-as explosives for mining operations is also included.
There are 89 tables, 91 figures, and 56 references, 40 of which
are Soviet, 14 English, and 2 French.

The following conclusions are drawn: (1) Caries spreads mote ~*iolcntly in tall
individuals than in short ones. (2) In very short and short indiv duals the living
conditions facilitate the appearance of caries. (3) In individuals very 6irongly built
and obese caries spreads much less intensively than in strong persons. (4) The
social and living conditions of the population in towns (the aifference in nutrition)
are more apt to lead to caries than the living conditions of the 6ral population.
(5) In the appearance and intensity of spread of caries there ari 2 antagonistic
factors, the social and living conditions being one factor and tWe other concerning
the constitutional and serological properties of thi! iddividual. I

Based on the data concerning the number of caries in milk teeth in children up t~ I
6 yr. of age, it is suggested that continued dental care for crbchas and pre-ach'XI
establishments should be organized. At the crttches and pre -school
dental consulting rooms should he established and at the begi;nning for 1.000
children I dentist should be employed for 7 hr. a day. If this is carried out it will
only then be possible to combat successfully caries of the milk teeth and prevent
the appearance of abnormalities of teeth and jawd. Fr~m_authorsl sup= rj
