organic solvents of various categories showed alcohols and ketones to be the best ex-
tracting agents. In determining phosphorus with BD, it is necessary to separate ex-
cess molybdate from PMC; the extract can be separated completely from the nolybdate
by washing twice with nitric acid at pli 1.5. Shaking with an IiCl solution of potas-
sium permanganate completely decolorizes the free triphenylmethane dyes, whiie. the
PMC-BD compound is not affected. An extract ive-photometric method was developed for
determining phosphorus by means of iodine green (sensitivity, 0.03 pg phoephorus per

months and more. More clearly expressed reaction changes in blood and
lymphatic vessels were observed during homotransplantation than during auto-
transplantation. The earliest changes in blood and lymphatic vessels took place
in the area of the vascular crus and intestinal anastomoses. The intestines
showed more sharply defined changes in the venous system than in the arterial
system. The area of the intestinal suture joined to the blood vessels towards the
end of the first week. Drainage of lymph from the transplanted intestine was
resumed in the end of the second week. Extirpation of mesenteric lvmnh nodes
delayed the regenerative processes in the lymphatic vessels of the small intestine.

deduced that in cases of total transplantation of the small intestine it is indispens-

ABSTRACT: Sectors of the esophagus 3 to 10 cm long in 176 dogs were replaced

Hystomorphologic examination was carried out after 2 to 6 weeks and after 3 to 4
months. A capsul pertaining to connecting tissues and made of collagenous and
elastic longitudinally oriented fibers with small neural truncus ingrowing in the
capsule developed around the prosthesis. The inner surface of the capsule

became covered with a multilayer epithelium. The long stay of the prosthesis in
the lumen of the esophagus delayed the development of the capsule which did not
come into contact with the prosthesis. Against the background of the delayed
maturation of the capsule, its ulceration and decubitus ulcers at the extremities of
the esophagus were noted. Maturation of the capsule in the presence of the
prothesis took place without lessening of the diameter of the lumen of the esophagu
but the length of the newly formed segment was shorter -than that of the resected
sector. In a number of cases, maturation of the capsule without prosthesis was
accompanied by a narrowing of the lower part of the lumen of the capsule. The
relationship of the degree of narrowing of the esophagus with the time of removal
of the prosthesis was not following a regular pattern. Favorable results of the
formation of the capsule were obtained in cases of natural casting off o"fthe
prosthesis after complete aperture of the fixative. sutures, usually between 3 and
7 weeks after the operation (acceptable period for removal of resorption of a
prosthesis). The author perfers the use of monolithic prosthesis. When using
prosthesis made of net, the tissues of the organism grow into the material, which
causes a proliferative and giant-cellular reaction, disorder in the structure of the
esophagus walls and disengagement and ulceration of the mucuous membrane of the

TEXT: A short survey of the basic directions in the field of algo,
rithmization of industrial processes and constructing control mecha-
nisms for industrial applications desi6nea at the Kafedra vychisli-
tellnoy tekhnixi KPI (Department of Computer Technology of the KPI).
The concepts of the theory of optimal organization and control are
introduced, which differ from the theory of complex automation by
its more general approach: 1) 'Eystems are considered which can in-,
clude a-human being in the controlling task of the system; 2) the-
industrial process is examined in its interaction with other fac-
tors (e.g. economical ones); 3) a rational organization of the pro-

is divided into informationalp program-controlled machines, and con-
trol. The basic structural schemes of these in systems of industri- V//1_
al cybernet-ins are given. The principles of equivalent programming
are briefly described, and the operation method is noted in particu-
lar. The use of interpolational and extrapolational method makes it
possible to determine simultaneously both the statistical and dyna-,
mic characteristics of systems under non-stationary input influen-
ces. In systems of optimal organization the use of self-educEtion

TEXT: In conjunction with attempts to produce a general mathemati-
cal apparatus for the theory of automatic control systems, the au-
thor describes the algebra of structural diagrams of automatic con-
trol systems. The structure of the system is described with the aid
of logical operators which assume only-2 values (1 or 0) and with
the aid of so-called non-logical operators which can represent'con-
tinuous links of a system having a certain transfer function. In
addition use is made of several other special signs and symbols de-
noting the form of combinations of elements and types of connec-
tionB. I't is pointed out that the introduction of such a description
of the control systems should make it easier to study them from the

the characteristics of controlled objects is,given. The interpola-
tion methods are understood as those which-seek the required dyna-
mic characteristic in the*analytical form depending linearly on cer-
tain parameters. The parameterB.of this expression are estimat6d
from the condition of maximum probability of selecting the observa-
t,ions of the object output within a finite time interval. It is
assumed that the output of the object may contain interferences not

ABSTRACT: Methods of calculating the current in damper viindings
are not reliable and heating is apt to be uneven in con-
sequence. This article offers well-founded and convenient
formulae for calculating the current in dampe~hwindings- To
this end, an expression is derived for the n damping
circuit in the lo.ngitudinal-axi5, consistine of bars symmetri-
cally placed in relation to the pole axis. Anabgous expressions
can be written for the cross-axis. The currents in the damper-
winding bars and the corresponding magnetic fields are illu-
strated diagrammatically in Figure 1. By subtraction of
expressions derived above, a further expression i_- obtained
for the characteristics of neighbouring bars; a diagram of
the corresponding currents and magnetic fluxes appears in
Figure 2. When the frequency is high, the E:,,,--'U-ive resistances
may be neglected and the slot-leakage reactances of the bars
Cardl/4 are also usually negligible compared with the circuit

inductances. The mathematical conditions under vhich these
simplifications can be made are analysed. RKpressions are
derived for the currents in the longitudinal-and lateral-axes;.
the satisfactory agreemerat betieen theory and experiment is
demonstrated by the results given in Tz)ble 1. Calculations
are then made of the damper-winding current with a circular
asynchronous field when the field winding is open-circuited.
Experiments tere then made to verify the formulae. In a
temporarily converted synchronous machine, two armature phases
were driven by another motor x-d supplied with d.c.. Thus,
the sinusoidal field rotated relative to the poles. Currents
were determined fror-, volta6e-drop measurements on the
damper-winding bars. To this end, the bars were Lade hollow
and had two wires soldered to the inside with their ends
brought out. The tests were made with no interpole connec-
tions on the damper windings, with various numbers of bars
per pole and with various bar pitches. The test results are
given in Table 2. Since the machine was notrum-ling at
synchronous speed, the presence of the damper windinG
increased the flux in the longitudinal axis and diminished

Current cali-,lalations are then riade for the case of low
frequency. The dampinr- currents in the bars are smaller
in -ase and - con:plex rLethod is used for their approx-
imate de'lerarination. An expression is also derived L'Gr 'the

of I C.P.s. were derived from oscillograirs of vol-1E.-age drop on
the ba-i-Q and are repTesented in Figure 4. The ex~erime-nt~l
conditions were the sa-m-e as in Table 1: the meas-ared
currents are greater than the calculated values, but the
distribution is similar. Calculated values of the current
coiicentration in different bars are given in Table 3.
