the Ki*roackope (Metod iseledoraniya struktury farfora pod
mikroskopom)
FERIODICIL3 2awodakaya Laboratoriya, 1959, Vol 25, Nr 6, pp 707-710 (USSR)
ABSTRACTs Microscopic investigations were carried out on porcelain
samples by applying sAsultaneously the penetrating and the
r0l*ctea light ray. Thin Rd transparent ground sections with
polished s"face wer6 prepared for the purpone. Some of the
*ample# wers additionally investigated radiographically.
(Ref 8). The conditions under which the porcelain sections
*ere prepared axe dcooribed (Table 1); pickling took
2-3 minutes in a 10 % hydrofluurto acid The hase
oomposition of an insulation porcelain irig 4 obtained by
the method described, consisted chiefly of a mixture of
fine-disporms stullito and glass, containing scattered
quarts grain* and vitrified feldspar grains with smaller
ond brighter mull1te particles. The size of th quartz grains
varied form 0.008 to 0.064 mm (mostly 0.02-0.0; mm), whereas
Card 1/2 the vitrified feldspar was predominantly coarse-grMned

(0-05-0-09 as). The fact that the mullite could not be
observed in the prinolpal mass of the porcelain is explained
by its overall fins, dispersion. Also a quantitative phase
determination an the polished ground section was carried out
(Table 2). The method described made It possible to state
tbat mullite crystallizes only in vitrified feldspar and is
irisible, in the form of needles under microscopic investigation
with penetrating light. There are 2 figures, 2 tables, and
$ references, 7 of which are Soviet.

ABSTRACT Lately ipore and move prooesses have become important, the process-
Ing v*loolty of which is dependent on the diffusion within the
granules. This part of in-ternal-diffusion kinetics in, however,
Insufficiently worked out in thin respect. Only during the last
2 years hava systematic works on this problem with respect to a
certain substance been published. There are especially no data
on the velocity of adsorption of ethylene from a flow of gas-
mixtuxes. In the present work the velocity from mixtures with
B-'03 amd C11 of Industrial coal of the sort AG-2 are studied.
, 2 4
A metbod of differential measurement of the adsorption kinetics
for nixtures was especially worked out for this investigation.

"so of a given duration of contact with a mixture of higher
ethylene content. L special apparatus was constructed for the
tLeasurement of the adsorption kinetics of the mixtures. One of
the usual equations for the internal diffusion kinetics of the
adooription of a substance with a constant coefficient is used for
%he elaboration of experimental results. The calculation of the
ooefflolenta of internal diffusion D was carried out by means
of a tlimonslonl*ss theoretical curve which shows the degree cf
granule treatment 7 to be dependent on the criterion of
?Q - VVIV. This curve was computed by the authors for the case
of a (iirfunion into cylindrical granules of a rad1u3 R and a
length 2L in the case of a given simplex value of the form
a - I/L , equal to 0,308- Illustration i shows that the experimwatal
resul4s for all systems coincide satisfactorily with the
theorotical dimensionless ourve F-Fo. The results obtained during
this work on the dependence of the coefficient of in-ternal dif-
fusion on the adsorption of ethylene, on the nature of the
socond component, and on the porosity of the sorbent are shown
in Illustration 2. In all systems investigated the values of the

dance on the entire Interval of the ohaAge of the values of ad-
sorptiom for the nitrogen-ethylene and methan-ethylene systemal
thle Und of dependence remains with hydrogen if the two curves
are separated into two parts. From this is follows that three
tinds of diffusion are superposed upon one another within the
frame of usual conceptions of the diffusion of ethylene within
the granule: a diffusion according to the volume, one accordinG to
the moleouloa and one according to the surface. of which the list
plays only an unimport"t r8le. The traditional conceptions are,
bowev*r, not sufficient for the description of those processes,
A number of important and practical conclusions concerning the In-
fluence of single parameters on the process of separation in a
noving amd In a steady layer, &a well as regards the demands of
the adsorbent follows from the internal diffusion character of 1h9
adsorption kinetics determined in the course of this work. The
numerical characteristics obtained make it possible to compute
the dynamlas of ethylene adsorption. (2 Illustrations)

ABSTRACT: As in othemol production thA content of propylene in the above-
muntioned fractiono may amount to a may'-- of only 0.2%, various
mathods of determining propylene, with a maximum relative error of
W-i% were worked out as varieties of the chromatogrophical metb~d.
Antive aluminum oxide and silioa Sol of the type MM were tested as
adsorbents. the latter beix,,, subjected to a prelimix-ory treatment
for the purpose of reducing polymerizing properties. Carbon dioxile
atid air were used for chromatographic development, and the concen-
tration of coMonents me determined by measuring the gas volume
aCter adsorption Of 002 in 40% KOH or by means of the height of
the curve maxins recorded by an electron potentiometer which was
eq)arated by means of a gas ana.4%er constructed on the basis of the
principle of the thermal oonducti-rity of the gas mixture. The prot-

tkke 30 minutes &ad in the case of silica gel 60 minutes. In the
coat of the former it was possible to separate butane from pro-
pylene, whereas an the latter only the aum of these components
cgFuld be determined. Besides, aluminum oxide waa found to produoe
a lower degree of polymerizirAg affect upon unsaturated C4-hydr*-
akfbons. The chramktographlo method was carried out on an appa-
rtktus of the type developed by A.A.Zhukhovitakly and N.M.Tuftell-
Uub (Ref 4) v In which ous &Iumimm oxide having a grain size of
0,25-0,5 mm was used, It was possible to separate admixtures from
b&sic components with matisfactory distinctness, but propylene
on= be separated :tz butane only after a prolonged prooess of
aruLlyaia. The method ia auffloiently sensitive, and, in the case
of* 4L fully autaiamt1sed goLs-mixture supply-system, analysis win
take 6.5 minutes in the came of each process of determination.

TETTt In ethylame intended for the production of polyethylene the
admixtures must not exceed hundrethe per cent. The authors describe a
chromatographic method for the determination of Admixtures up to a content
of about 0.005% by volume. TheXT-2M(KhT-2M) chromatograph, manufactured
by Mosneftekip Plant, was used. Standard mixtures of ethy--ene with
hydrogen, propane, butane, methane, acetylene, carbor, mono;ide. and
isobutame were used for the investigation. The ethylene wag supplied by
the Novokuybyehovskiy zarod SS (Ncvokuybyshovsk Plant SS)t it was
additionally purified before use. The following optimum conditi~,nz for the
analysis vere asnertainedt First chromatographic column of 5 m length
and 4 mm inside diameter, filled with aluminum oxide w;.th 0-25-0-50 mm,

at the joints in kept at 2.5 v during the first six minutes and then
reduced to 1.9 - 2 v. From the sixth to the twelfth minute (during the
discharge of ethylene) the gas current is let out into the air. The total
determination ttikes almost 25 min- 20 MA Of ~,AE mixture are analyzed.
Under theme conditions ethane Is covered by ethylene; n-butane and acetylene
are separated from propylene, but not from each otherl for the latter
purpose the seeond column is used. The experiments ahowed that about
0.005% by volumo of an admixture may still be determined; the
reproduoibility of a determination is 10 - 15 relative per cent.

ABSTRACT: The theoratloal calculation of the stresses (Or) arising In Joints of
ceramics (C) with metal (M) has been carried out. For practical ealcula-
tions- the followtng formula is reccamended: (Y - 5.5 E'd* t(ck -V12)/r,
