AHSTPACT3 1-abloro4-naphthol has not been widely used in disinfectant practice
beoauso of Its low bactericidal activity (Ya.L.Okunevskiy). Vashkov,
Ckubdova, Shavyrin& and Pjakova. have observed that it has a marked
seleatIve action an bacteria of the %yphus-enteric group. Subject
imthorn synthesized the substance by chlorinatingp -naphthol with
sulfuryl chloride in chloroform. A water-soap emilelon of the dis-
infeot#nt wam prepared and tested in concentrations ranging from 0.025
to 2% In the laboratory and under field conditions. The disinfecting
action of the evulsion was tried out an gauze test-objects, soaked
with fowl tuberculosis bacillus or with tuberculosis sputum, and on
woodenv painted and plamter surfaces contaminated with Myoobwterium
tuberataosis. The results prov4d that 1-ohloro-p- naphthol is effective
in a concentration 10 times less than that of chloramine. Its other

smell. As far as can be observed, It has no toxic properties, althoLgh
gloves are recousended when handling It due to the indreased skin
sensit1rity It may provoke. For the disinfection of surfaces, crockery,
,utensiX3 and linen in tuberculosis nidi it in recommended to use a
0.5% wsaer-soap emulsion of 1-chloro-~-naphthol and to allow it to act
for 60 mknutoe.
