IBSTRACT., The present paper Investigates the spatial
distribution of the
different components of a broad atmooDheric cosmic ray shower at
groat distances from its axis (200 - 800 m). For a detailed study
of this problem the Pamir-Expedition of the Academy of Science of
the U,S.S.R. (au#mer and autumn 1950 and 1051) used a now method:
In different places of the observation plain the flux density of
all aharged particles (and separate from It that of penetrating
~&rtioles) was simultanously determined with hodosoopic devices.
Method of correlated hodoscopes).
Summary of results: The shower domain Investigated here consists
of an eleatron-photen component andef a penetrating component
(apparently myons). With increasing distance from the shower axis
the relative share of the penetrating component increases

total flux density of electrons and of penetrating particles in
determined by the formula~(r) - I/r" with n -v2,0. On account of
the relatively slow decrease of flux densities of shower
particles
the periphery of the shower plays an essential part in
tho
goperal balance of the flux of the shower particles. The
mechanism
of the transition of electrous to the periphery of the
shower is
reduced to the Coulomb scattering of these electrons by
th*
nuclei of air atoms. The transition of Myons to the periphery
of the
shower is effected by their Coulomb scattering and also
apparently
at the expense of the emission angle in the elementary
acts of the
nucleus cascade process of th- positive and negative
