ABSTRACT: The author states that lubricating oils and grease packaged
in barrels of aspen or beech wood can be stored for
five years or longer without ill effects if the barrels
are hatAdled properly and the storehouses ventilated
according to prescribed rules. He tells of a case concerning
a shipment of lubricating oils that were barreled in
aspen or beech wood barrels made in 1951-52 and sent from
the Aldy and Nikel' railroad stations to the Voroshilov,
Ippolitovka and Telyanza railroad stations, and to 11
other locations. The first three locations were instructed
in the handling and storing of this freight with the result

that after five years of storage the barrels either developed
slight leaks or remained in good condition. In the 11
locations which did not receive instructions, the barrels
developed heavy leaks three to six months after delivery
and had to be transferred after 1--l 1/2 years of storage.

treatments. Good results wore obtained with i3ombined machine
:and chemical treatmontp-withono spraying# ono plowingp and 3
grinding operations par season. The troos grow idonticAlly in
all test variants, Soil moist-aro was doterminod monthly in
summer down to 1,5 m and was 3-5% lower in the control part
where woods wore loft to grow. A cost comparison shows that
hand weed!.ne was oostliont and mochanioul treatment was chonpostp
but that the latter doBtroyod only 2e of ttie woods In wot
soil and provod harinful In aiurmor weather, Herbicide treatment;
.alone was more expensive since the trees were planted too close
for mechanized spraying, The combire d treatment was best
because it required only 1.9 dftys work por hootare or 1/6
the work needed for hand wooding. However, at present 111-20%
of now growth Is still wooded.by hand in 5 annual treatments
requiring 50 work days par hootaro. It was concluded that
the beat results are obtained by applyJng machines before the

oil-film pressure is constant, the author derives an expression for cal-

planes the author derives an expression for calculating the maximum allow-
able clearance between a cylinder liner and a piston skirt. With the
formula derived, he makes calculations for a number of Soviet types of
engines and concludes that presently used standard clearances are too
small and may be increased to their maximum values as determined by
calculation. The increase in clearance will result In the reduction of
wear and repair costs.

Chemical, macro-# and microstructural analyalat hardness tests, and de-
termination of density and cutting properties were made for original
and heat-treated specimens made of chips produced by milling of types
P9 and P18 high-speed stools. Comparative tests were also made of cutting

Effects of gage base) nonparallelism of grid wires, deformation of wires

Investigated. Results show that for the gage bases from 2 to 5 em long

ANSTRACT: A review Is presented of the miniature resistors now manufactured
in Czechooloyakiaj and their charatterietide are tabulated. Miniature resio-
tore now account for about 5 percent of n1l resistors used, and this ratio is
expected to increase to 20 percont by 1970. Rollability of,the miniature re-
sistors depends not only on production quality but also on how they are handleti
and installed. Users should devote special attention to the length of the Sol-
