Abstract : In 10 cases of sudden death there were pronounced
hemcdynar
mic changes in all parts of the CTIS: plethora, stasis wit h
perivascular edem, extravasatione, infrequent hemorrhages,
and a significant widening of perIvascular spaces. Manges
in ganglion cells were weakly expressed and were obsexTed
only in scattered cells. In 25 cases of death after brief
illness there were more pronounced hemodynamic changeei in

revealed,
which was considered to be a complication of the pill
nary
process. Nerve cell changes resulting from hypoxia and
to-
xicosis cause heu)dynamic and a series of autonomic
disor-
ders; the latter aggrevate the p0monary process~ which,
in turn, increases hypoxia and leeds to depression of
the
body's reactivity.

The establishment of conditioned blinking reflexes was
achieved by means of the
synch ronizatiou of sound signals with Pt stream of air on
to the cornea. The blink-
ing reflexes were recorded by a photoelectric counter.
Twelve people with normal
hearing and I patient with chronic otitis were
investigated. The results of the first
series of experiments showed that, with an increase in We
strength of the lincon-
ditioned stimulant, the latent periods Of the
unconditioned blinking reflexes are
shortened and their amplitude is increased. In the second
series of experiments
the dynamic establishment of the conditioned blinking
reflexes in response to stimul- -
ation by sound of minimal intensity was investigated. It
was found that after the use
of 70 combined stimulations a period of formation of
stable conditioned blinking
reflexes occurs. In this, In comparison with the original
period of establishment
noticed after 4-7 stimulationS and characterized by
instability, the latent periods
diminished markedly and the amplitude of reaction
increased 3-4 times. At the end
of the 3rcl series of experiments the Tneasurements of the
sensitivity of the 'audi-
tory analysor' obtained by means of conditioned blinking
reflexes and by other
means were found to correspond. The fourth series of
experiments showed the
great significance of the second signalling system for the
accomplishment of
conditioned blinking. reflexes, The author demonstrated
that the limits of different-
iation of sounds by their frequency, as determintd by
blinking reflexes. arie in
close agreement with the* limits of differentiation as
determined by ordinar-Y means.
Conditioned'blifiking reflexes can be uned for
investigation of the 'auditory anAlysor'
of man, especially in children and In pathological cases
associated with disturbanc-
as of speech. (S)

Abstract New plant-hosts were discovered in Armexda of
a bacterial
stimulator of apricot browning (B. mesertericus vulgatus
Flugge). The hosts are as follows: walr.utp pear,
quince,
grape and watermelon. Oie disease symptoms, the
properties
of pure cultawes, and the results of artificial
infections
are described. The similarity of morphological.,
biochemical
and cultural properties of pure bacterial cultures,
isolated
from pear, quin:!e and WELtermelon with properties of B.
mesentericus makes it possible to consider them as a
biological
race of the latter. Thei results of artiricial
cross-iafections
showed that for each stimulator of bacterial browning in
apricots, summer squash, peaches and pears, there
exists a b;3_Qic
and subsidiary range of plant-hosts. To the secondary
hosts
belong quince) grape and.watermelon. Thi! stimulators
of bac.-

"Investigation of Arc-Quenching ArranEements with
Automatic Transverse
Oil Blast." 14 June 1948. An examination is made of
the possibility of
a quantitive evaluation of energy processes which take
place in arc-quench-
ing arrangements with an automatic transverse oil
blast. A method is given
for calculating the coefficient of hydraulic
resistance of the blast canal
and an empirical equation is proposed.
