Combination of lithium and aluminum soaps in consistent

TEXT: The optimum temperatures of isothermal crystallization
0of soft
greases containing taono- and distearates of Al are 120 and
80 C,
respectively. In these conditions the greases have their
highest
viscosity, limiting shear stress and drop-fall temperature,
etc. For
the same weight concentrations a greater thickening effect
is exhibited
by the distearate while for equal molecular concentrations
by the mono-
stearate of Al. The temperature dependence of the
volume-mechanical
properties of the greanes thickened with Al distearate is
much more
pronounced than with greases thickened with Al monostearate.

the effect of additions of Al soap on the properties of Li
greases, Al
monostearate was chosen, giving the best characteristics of
the greases.
Besides this, the optimuM temperatures of crystallization of
La stearate
(1100C) and Al monostearate (12000) are close, to each other.
The
introduction of Al soaps into Li greases lowers their
viscosity,
limiting shear stress,. colloidal stability, and drop-fall
tempernture.
When the ratio of Al nonostearate to Li soap was increased up
to 3:1 or
that of Al distearate to Li stearate up to 1:1, it was not
possible to
prepare the greases. The joint crystallization of Al and Li
soaps, as
shown by examination %ith an electron microscope, is
considerably
hindered, and in the case of low concentrations of Al soap
(tip to 1,0'7`
of monostearate and 25'7) of Al distearate) there occurs a
considerable
reduction in the dispersion of the Li stearate, crystallites,

TEXT: The operating unit ol this apparatus for determining
the limit of
solidity (limitine: shear st:ress),-t nr , of aoft greases
consists of two
parallel immovable plates, 'between which there is located a
third plate,
joined -to a balance beam. The grease unde:r test is smeared
between the
plates, the SUI'face of which is covered with grooves to
prevent slippage
at the walls. Onto the second balance bean is fixed a cup,
into which
water is poured at a fixed rate. As the water gradually fills
the cup,
the load on the plate increases and the plate moves in the
grease. The
construction of the apparatus allows one to find beforehand

of displecement of the plate at which the ccntacts of a
relay are closed
and the filling of the cup with water ceases. The weight of
the cup
with the water at this moment corresponds to the load on
the plate at
which a given displacement of the plate in the grease takes
place. By
relating the load to the area of contact between the plate
and the
grease, T-.ir of the grease can be calculated. The
magnitude of the path
of displacement of the plate is chosen by 305(6 - 40,1~2
higher than the lim-
iting value of the elastic deformations (found by
preliminary experi-
ments). 1,or Li and Ca greases this value is usually 0.1 -
0.12 mm, and
for hydrocarbon greases 0.05 - 0.06 mm. The reproducibility
of parallel
determinations for the measurement of'V is + 10 - lep of
the mean.

ABSTRACT: The authors describe an investigation of the effect
of saturating liquids
upon the propagation velocity of elastic longitudinal waves in
samples of sedimentary
rocks exposed to omnidirectional pressures up to 1500 kg/cm2
and temperatures up to
1500C. While it is knoirn that variations in the physical
properties of minerals (caus-
ed by the saturating liquids) can be used for th,a detection.
of oil deposits, them is
very little data available on the effect of these liquids vn
the physical parameters
of sedimentary rocks. The experiments were baseO on
measurements of the propagation
velocity of ultrasonic vibrations through varioua samples of
clay and sandstone under
accurately contmlled conditions of pressure and temperature,
both in presence and in
absence of saturating liquids (kerosene, naphta and 4 mol
rolution of NaC0. A spe-

cial chamber was constructed, designed to vithstand pressui,es
up to 5000 kg/cm2 and
temperatures up to 3000C. This chamber was equipped with -i
heating element, an oil
pump to generate omnidirectional pressure on the sample, a,i
ultrasonic transducer and
receiver, as well as various temperature and pressure gagei for
measuring and control-
ling the internal environment. The authors measured the
viriations of sound propaga-
tion (at about 100 KHz) caused by changes in temperature e_id
pressure in dry and li-
quid saturated rock samples. Dry samples of sandstone exhibited
nonlinear change of
propagation velocity with respect to omnidirectional pressure.
The changes were much
less pronounced for dry clay. In the liquid-saturated sairoles,
the absolute velocity
was higher (up to 500 m/sec) due to greater acoustical
coL,pling area but the changes
in,6velocity for sandstone were now similar to those in cley,
which differed only
slightly from the dry sample. The higher degree of velocity
variation in dry sandstone
can' be attributed to more rapid closure of pores under ambient
pressure than in clay.
T-he increase in temperature causes reduction in propagation
velocity in both dry and
1--quid saturated samples.. The following conclusions are made
based on the results of
-Ilese experiments: 1. In dry samples, the changes in
propagation velocity of longitu-
dinal waves depend upon lithologic*al oomposi-~ior, and the
fiatur;e 6f porosity. In clays,
such changes are gradual and in sandstone there is an abrupt
change at 500 kg/cm2
with a subsequent decrease in the gradient. 2. The velocity
changes with respect to
pressure are similar in saturated clays and sandstone. 3. The
influence of tempera-
ture on the velocity is stronger in rocks saturated with
naphta, than in dry samples

ABSTRACT: Laboratory deformation measurements ha,re been made
for sandstone specimens
subjected to pressures up to 2500 kg/cm2 in order to determine
whether residual de-
formation occurs In sedimentary rocks subjected to a secondary
compaction process in
a laboratory at pressures exceeding those that prevailed during
the primary compaction
process in situ. Changes in specimen porosity attributable to
pressure change served
as the parameter characterizing deformation. The laboratory
specimens used were
taken from a depth of 3000-3500 m in the Ciscaucasus, where the
effective preusure
ranges from 500 to 600 '-.tg/cm2, respectively, and from a depth
of 1000-1200 m in the
Russian Platform, where the prevailing effective pressure is
'\'200 kg/cm2. Thk speci-
mens were first saturated with a liquid in vacuo. As the
pressure was increased,
deformation of the pore spacing ensued, forcing a measurable
amount of the liquid out

of the specimen. With the measurement error of the quantity of
expelled liquid at
tO.003 cm3 and .pore volume at 2-h cm3, deformation
measurements were made with an
error tolerance of less than 10.1%. The first results of
laboratory measurements
were found to be in good agreement with conditions in situ.
Therefore, it may be
possible, by subjecting tile specimen to laboratory pressure3
exceeding those pre-
vailing in situ, to determine the maximum pressure to which
the specimens were sub-

Even in the pediatric pathology of former days a large
number of sudden threats to
the child's life were known, in which direct interference by
the doctor was urgent.
In this respect, the many pathological causes in newborns
are mentioned, and also
aspirated foreign bodies, pseudocroup and true croup, 'acute
abdomen', ventric-
ular (duodenal) ulcer, bronchotetany etc. Other indications
have been added, which
have ,become urgent mainly by the possibility of using
antibiotics and which require
immediate medical treatment. Attention is drawn in
particular to the early dia-
gnosis of tb meningitis and of various septic infections. In
cases of burn, the damage
due to shock and, possible infections should be treated
without delay. Tile same
applies to blood group incompatibility. The value of the
cooperation of the general
practitioner, which is necessary for better protection of
the threatened life of the

Abstract: Brief review of 7 Gypsy family trunks 1928 and
1961, living in
a restricted area in northeastern Slovenia. Although
fertility is very
high and pregnancy rather continuous during the
reproductive life of the
women, regardless of marriage which is still rare,
popiilation is slowly
dying out; although lately some increase in tot,31
population is seen be-
cause all the persons survived longer. High frequency of
inbreeding and
actual incest is present in gypsies in this area. 3 tables.
