Propionitrile wan dotorted in tho noutral part of the catalyzate. The formation of the latter can only be explained by the presence of propionaldehyde in 'he reaction mixturcl. The fcrmation of aldehydes and nitriles from the latter is, In turn, explainei by cleavu,-- of the initial carbinols at a high temperature. In this connection the authors carried out a catalytic synthesis of the mentioned pyridine bases'both from the mixtures of the aldehyde with vinyl acetylene and ammonia, and from the aldehydes with airr"onia. In both caser, nont only th~- respective nitriles are obtained, but also the same pyridir.- bases, bu~. in a much higher yield than from carbinol.s. The yieldo of the pyridine bases obtained from the aldehydes and ammonia in the presence of vinyl acetylene do not differ from thooe obtained in the absence of vinyl acetylene. Thus, it may be concluded that vinyl acetylene &oes not tak,~ part in this reaction. The pyridine baoes form according to Chichibabin's scheme. Otdeleniye khinicheskikh nauk, 1959, Nr 4, pp 715-720 (USSR) ABSTRACT: In the present work the possibility of a syn-;hesis of pyridinic bases was investigated by a catalytic conden3ation of 2-methyl- hexadiene-2,5-in-3 and dimethylvinylethynyl ~-.arbinol vrit'h ammonia. It was found that at 410-5200 2-met*-iylhexadiene- 2,5-in-3 with ammonia yieldo a small number )f pyridinic bases on the catalysts Cr 203 /MgO/Al203 (10 : 2 : 80), CdHPO4/CaHPO 4 (20 : 80), CdO/Al 203 (30 : 70); and Cd/Al 203 (20 : 00). The reaction wi.th dinethylvinylet.-iynyl carbinol shows a considerably better progress. On the catalysts Cr20 3/YgO/A1203 (18 : 2 : 80), CdO/A'203 (30 : 70), Card 113 CdHPO4/CaHPO 4 (20 : 80), CdCrC 4/Al 203(20 : 30), r.reparation of Pyridinic Bases by Interaction of SOV/62-159-4-24,142 Dimethylvinyletbinyl Carbinol With Ammonia Cd/Al203 (20 : 80), Al 2039 and K = 16 a mixture of pyrilinic bases is formed at 350-5200. Under optimum conditions this mixture consists mainly of 2,4-dimethyl pyrMneq 2tf)-dimethyl pyridine, and 2,4,6-trimethyl pyridine. Table 1 shoris the effect of the temperature, reaction rate, aril molar ratio of the reagents an the yield of the catalysate and liaht pyridinic bases on Cr 0 /mi-O/Al 0 . Thus it can be seen that 2 3 g 2 3 the optimum reaction conditions are 4300, rtiaction rate 0.50 h and the molar ratio ammonia : carbinol - 3-2 - 1. U_uon dis- tillation of 103.5 g pyridinic bases, which were obtained on the chromium catalyst under optimum conditiDns, 49.5 indivi- dual pyridinic bases were separated (Table 3). The effect of temperature and reaction rate on the yield of the catalynate and light pyridinic bases on CdO/Al 0 Is shown in table 2. and 0.7 h-1. Upon Here the optimum conditions are 3609 3 distillation of 59.2 g of the catalysate obtained under optimum conditions 75 % light bases were precipitated (Tablf! 4). PERIODICAL: Doklady Akademii Nauk SSSR, 19571 Vol 113, Nr 6, Pp 1347 - 1349 (U.S,S.R.) ABSTRACT: In 1955 the archeologist V.P. Lyubin discovered in a cave in the Cha- sovali-Khoh dolomite massif in the gorge of the little river Dahord- zhora (left tributary of the river Rion) a very important place where human working tools and animal remains of the quartary were found. This mountain massif is greatly fissured. On the southern slopes there are several oaves and grottos, partly covered by bushes and trees. Accor- ding to Lyubin the stone tools found in a depth of 2 m blong to the Ashel- and Mousti4re period. Neolithio products and objects made of bronze and iron were discovered in the upper layers. The author in- vestigated bone splinters of bigger pleistocene mammals which had been hunted by palaeolithic hunteral as well as to a smaller extent animals caught by eagle-owls. Most bones are fossilized to a great extent and Card 1/3 show an annealing coefficient of 800 - 1.000, as is normal with lower 20-6-46/59 Tho Pleistocene Vertebrates from the Kudaro I Cave in South Onsetia, and Their Importance Zor the Study of the fauna and Landsoape-History of the Caucasus. pleiatooene. 14 kinds of animals were found. The rest of the fragments apparently belong to the cave bear (similar to uraus spelaeus) as well as to hoofed animals of middle sizel furthermore there are single bones of birds and of a big rapacious lizard. Apparently the xerophyte landscape via Suram and Imerstia overlapped the main Caucasus from the.Bouth in a wide area in some period of the pleistocene. Together with it came the Near East type fauna with the leopard, the porcupine of Asia Minor, the hamaterp Arkhar, and a big lizard. The maxillary bone of a marmot is similar to that of the arotomys marmota and the Altaic marmot. The pleistooene porcupine was related more closely to the recent A I ti h stix leuours than to the African h.cristata and the h. vinogradovi (middle pleiatooens Eastern Trans-Caucasia). For the first time remains of a rhinocerus of the Palaeolithicum of the Caucasus were discovered here. Deer and sheep are related to the recent forms of Central Asia as regards their size, Judging from the fauna of the Kudaro I-Cave It can be concluded that at that time Central Cauca- sia was a relatively low plateau with a warmer climate than now. The The accumulation period of most of the bones may correspond to the be- Card 2/3 ginning of the middle pleistocene.
