TITLE; Innergranular Chemical Transformatiom in the Copolymeres of Styrene With Divinylbenzene (0 vnutrigranullnykh khimi- cheskikh prevrashcheniyakh v sopolimerakh stirola a divinil- benzolom) PERIODICAL: Nauchnyye doklady vysshey shkoly. Xhimiya i khimicheskaya tekhnologiya, 1959, Nr 2, PP 363-367 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The authors investigated two forms of the chemical reaction in the polymeres mentioned in the title, which were used in granulated form (diameter 0.25-2.0 i!m): 1) Nitriding with following reduction of the nitrogen group, and 2) Chloro- methylating with following substitution of the chlorine atoms through aminogroups. Copolymejes with a content of 2f 39 4, and 10 % divinylbenzene were nitrided. After nitriding, the nitrogen content avergged 12-14 % (Table 1). A high content of divinylbenzene aggravated the nitriding and resulted in a lower nitrogen content. The nitrided granulate was of yellow color and its mechanical hardness decreased. The reduction Card 1/3 was carried out - after an unsatisfactory trial with zink - Innergranular Chemical Transformationsin the SOV/156-59-2-37/48 Copolymeres of Styrene With Divinylbenzene with tin (II) chloride in hydrochloric acid. With increasing interlacing of the copolymeres, the force of the reaction decreases (Table 2). The static anion-interchangeability of the best resin test-pieces amounted to 6.25 mg-equiv/g for 0-5-normal hydrochloric acid and 7-75 mg-equiv/g for 0-5-nolmwl sulphuric acid. During the second series of tests, copoly- meres with a divinylbenzene content of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 % were treated with chloromethylether (Table 3) and their chlorine content was determined. The copolymeres with a Cl-content of 18-19 % were substituted with trimethylamine. The rest-oontent of chlorine amounted to 7-10 %, the nitrogen content to 2-2-5 %. Wben treated with pyridine instead of trimethylamine, the copolymeres contained 9 % chlorine and also 2-2-5 % N. The static anion-interchangeability was 2-3 mg-equiv/g for 0.1-normal hydrochloric acid. There are 3 tables and 4 references, 2 of which are Soviet. Coordination Polymers on the Basis of' Dis-~8-h~d;7 quinolyl)-methane PERIODICAL: Vysokomolekulyarnyye soyedineniya, 1960, Vol, 2. No. 4, pp. 498-507 TEXT: In the present paper, the authors give a report on the synthesis of coordination polymers of bis-(8-hydroxyquinolyl)-methane (Oq) with zinc, nickel, cadmium, cobalt, manganeset and copper, as well as of mixed coordination polymers of Oq with quinizarin (q). Oq was synthetized by reaction of o-hydroxyquinoline with formaldehyde in concentrated sulfuric acid. Polymerization was carried out with the acetylacetonate of the metal in nitrogen current, and finally in vacuum at 22000, or in a nitrogen current or dimethy1formamide at 120 - 1400C. or in dinyl at 2300C. Table 1 gives the analyses and structural formulas, Table 2 the Card 1/4 8450h Investi,3ation in the Field of Coordination S/190/60/002/004/004/020 Polymers. III. Coordination Polymers on the B004/BO56 Basis of Bis-(8-hydroxyquinolyl)-methane coloring, the results of the X-ray structural analysis, the molecular weight, and the behavior during heating for Oq polymers~ The following structural formula is assumed: Xt ORH28 0.__ Me~ Y.mH 0, (X - H or !AeCH(COCH __N N--' 2 3 21 1deOOCCHV Me CH(COCH Me(OOCCH Y = Oq radical, CH(COCH ) I 00CCH 3)2 2' 3)2' 3 2 31 CH(COCH3)2 2 or (OOCCH 3)2' Polymeric coordination compounds1were obtained. Low-molecular compounds (trimer and dimer) were forined only with copper and nickel. Within'the temperature range 250 - 3200C decomposition sets in. Fig. I shows the thermomechanical curve of the zinc compound of Oq. The majority of polymers have a crystal structure. Fig. 2 shows the X-ray picture of the Oq compound with zinc and cadmium. The authors further produced mixed polymers; a) with Oq and two different metals (Zn 4 Cu; Zn i Cd); b) with Oq + Q and Co, 11.1n, Cu. Coordination Polymers on the B004/BO5 Basis of Bis-(8-hydroxyquinolyl)-mothane formulasv and behavior during heating are given for those compounas in Tables 3 and 4. Analysis shows that Oq has a higher complqx-forming activity than Q. Therefore, the polymers contained more Oq than Q. The authors thank the collaborators of the laboratories headed by G. The elemental composition, infrared spectra,, L17232-63-!' ACCESSION NRs AP3006594 and adhesion o metals -of the graft copolymers were determined. The-PTFE filakwas activated" by silent discharge (frequency, 50 voltage, 22-30 kv) in a mixture of air and oxygen for 10-30 min-ii itt a specially constructed apparatus. The activated PTFE film was., then placed in a vessel containing methyl methacrylate, and %ulk polymerization of the methy! methacrylate was conducted at 85-9()C$1 to a degree of conversion-of 4-5%. The film was theft treated with' boiling dichloroethane and acetone to remove the homopolymer and dried to constant weight. The properties of the dry film were dc!-;' termined and compared with the properties of the initLal PTFE. Table 1 of the Enclosure shows the results of the grafting of methyl methacrylate to a P 'TFE film 40 p thick. In individual ex periments yields of 7-8% on the initial PTFE were obtained for thil grafted layer. Comparison of the infrared spectra of the initial., 1~ and the grafted PTFE shows two new absorption bands, 3000 cm-1 and 1450 cm-1, for the litter, corresponding to the valency, and deformation vibrations of the C113 groups. The grafted PTFE-to- 25 kg/cm7 steel adhesive bond strength ranged from 5 to . dependinil on the amount of methyl methatrylate grafted. It was assumed that: Car4 2 1-V ------- ---- L-T L 1'7232-63~ ACCESSION NRt AP3006594 in the activation of the f i1m, gas ionization due to the silai%t electrical discharge led to the formation of reactive radicals on the surface of the PTFE film. These radicals initiate the~.',- grafting reaction. With the cooperation of Ya. S. Lebedev of.the Institut khimicheskoy fiziki AN SSSR (Institute of Chemical Physics. AN SSSR) the authors studied the EPR of the activated film, but did not obtain characteristic polymeric or peroxide radicals of PTFE, such as were obtained by Rextoad and Gordy (A. N. Rexroad, N. It was found that following the application of the haemolitic units (dosage 36, and 7, 2) the intensity of diffusion of K42 from the tissue considerably increases and reaches a maximum in about 20 minutes. Then, it begins to decrease, and after 80-120 minutes it returns -to the normal level despite the fact that toxin contact with muscle membrane remained unabated, The conclusion is that the permeability changes Card I / 2 I orlir (-,7 11 . - . -1 1--, - I --- - ----- -- - ---- --- - - - -- ACC NR- AP6032380 (.D I I experienced in this process'do not cause any irreversible damage to smooth Muscle I membrane, and that these changes are not a decisive factor in the development of I muscle contraction.
