TITLEt systematization of Triple BonA Types
PIMIODICALs Izvestiya Akademii nauk SSSR. Otdeleniye
khimicheakikh
nauk, 1960, No. 12, pp. 226o-226i
TEXT: The author suggests the systematization of molecules
with triple
bonds. For all known and some unknown molecules with
triple bonds,
combinations of the following types of atoms are
establishedt
G
IC (a)
R - B R- C R N- (b)
(dote denote,Yr-olectrons, vertical lines p-electrons,
horizontal linen
ir-olectrona (see also Refs. 3 and 4)). Only moleoules and
tons formed by
the combination of atom types (a) have an electron
configuration of the
closed layer. The triple bond in these compounds is
distinguished by high
stability. Molecules and tons with (b)-type atoms have no
p-orbits, and

- _1
Systematization of Triple Bond Types SANP04/000/012/020/020

are much less stable than the former. On the basis of these
statements,
the author assumess 1) that the extraordinary acidity of acetylene
and
hydrooyanic acid is not only due to an increasing participation of
a-orbits in mixed atomst or to the polarization of atoms (Ref. 5),
but
mainly to the fact that ions with nitrogen-like electron
configuration
are formed by ionizationj 2) that the formation of acetylene and
hydro-
cyanic acid is not only due to their heat absorpt"vity but to the
formation
of the same ions in the gaseous phase. This latter statement might
be
checked by analyzing the mass spectra of gases formed in the
production of
HCN by Andrusov's method, or of C2H2 during methane cracking.
Among the
unknown molecules with a triple bond predicted on the basis of the
systematization suggested, molecules with a boron content should
be of
special interest. The triple bond of molecules whose atoms much
differ
by their electronegative behavior Is also unstable. The author

Oxidation of isotactic polypropylene
Vysokomolokulyarnyye soyedineniya, v. 3, no. 7, !961,
1110 - 1115
TEM Polypropylene being processed at very high temperatures, the
target
of the present paper was to study the oxidation of 4ootactic
polypropy-
lens at 120 - 1500C. For all experiments. polypropylene of a
molecular
weight of 400#000, ash contents 0.5 % was used, Absorption of
oxygen
was measured at atmospheric pressure by heating the
polypropylene in a
reaction vessel filled with 0 2" Decrease of volume due to
absorption of
02 was determined visually by means of a graduated, horizontal,
U-shaped
capillary tube (total length about 1300 mm) filled with mercuryo
or a
platinum wire (diameter 0.1 mm) was fused into the capillary
tube and the
change of reactance, due to the shift of the mercury within the
capillary
