A new spectral apparatus was developed which makes possible the quick sorting of high quality steel bars and also allows to carry out analyses without the necessity of using specially prepared samples* A spectral system with two prisms is used, and in this way a better dispersion and sharper separation are achieved. Provision is made for an adaptation by which it can be Used for flame-photometric and spectrophotometric measurements. The data of the optical system (Fig 1) are as follows: focal distance of the collimator 270 mm, light intensity - 1:81 focal distance of the objective of the inspection tube 450 mm light intensity - 1:10, focal distance of eyepiece lense 16 mm, length of the visible spectrum from 4000 to 7500 1 -71 Card 1/2 The collimator and inspection tube are parallel so that the A Spectroscope for Sorting Steel SOV/32-25-3-45/62 length of the spectroscope is reduced to half of its normal length. An illustration of the apparatus (Fig 2) with a description is also given. There are 2 figures and 1 Soviet reference. ASSOCIATION: Universitet ~m, LorantbEtvesha i kombinat "Chepell", I "e. (snow) (Hydrology) 3(0) AUTHOR: Barabash, SOV/50-58-12-9/20 TITLE: Forecast of the Maximum Consumption of the Floods of the Ingurl Mountain River (Prognoz makeimallnogo raskhoda polovodlya gornoy reki Inguri) PERIODICAL: Meteorologiya i gidrologiya, 1958, Nr 12, PP 37-38 (USSR) ABSTRACT: According to conditions of drainage in the course of the year the Ingurt river belongs to those which have the floods period during the warm season. Th6 drainage from thaw (at Dzhvari) is 40-60 % of the floods drainage (April-August), rain drainage about 15-25 %. The glacier component is on the average 17 %, the ground water component is 13 % of the floods drainage. Since thaw water plays a predominant part in the formation of floods the maximum consumption forecast during the period of floods is possible on the basis of the snowmass in the mountains (precipitations in-winter) as well as accord- ing to temperature during the thaw. The m-in argument for the forecast was the quantity of precipitation by means of the ombrograph during the cold season (months with negative air temperature). The sums of precipitations of the individual Card 1/2 stations for long-range forecasts of the maximum consumptidn Forecast of the Maximum Consumption of the Floods SOV/50-58-12-9/20 of the Ingurl Mountain River (of the level) were only referred to the corresponding zones of altitudes. However, also data of some stations outside the range of the corresponding catchment area were utilized. Sections which chwacterize the individuftl weather stations were computed according to the hypsometric curve. The sum of precipi- tations measured at each station was multiplied with a coef- ficient which represents.the ratio between the surface of the catchment area of the zonecfaltitude of the corrosponding weather station and the total surface of the catchment area. Tha results obtained were added ana compared to the maximum consumption figures of the floods (Fig 1). The ~ep'endence is securel with 87 ~o while natural security (obespechennost') is 47 %. Wr6ng forecasts were made in 1939, 1943, and 1953. The analysis has shown that in these cases the precipitations considerably ex- ceeded the standards during the period of floods. There is 1 figure.
