Abstract A new work system, so called logarithmic:
i.e., a system of
variables (log P/PO)T)) is introduced. The selected
system
is useful for the study of cycles of ideal gases. The
area
bounded by the line of the cycle represents the power
of the
cycle, the same as in the % v) and(T,s) variable
systems.
Methods are given for representing an arbitrary poly-
trDpic curve in the selected system. This system offers
con-
veniences in the a~ialysis of the operation of heat
engines.

Chill molds work under
the influence of the repeated,

one-sided process of heating.
The influence of the

heat and the pressure of the liquid
metal cause damage

to their walls. Such damage might happen
already

during the first pouring in case the temperature-is

higher than the metal can withstand. In such cas$s

hair line
cracks appear. The resistance property of

the metal casting
die is closely related to the elas-

tic properties of the
material especially that of the

outer layer of the surface.
The brittleness of the

cast iron is closely related to the
contents of sul-

phur. This could be learnea especially from
the work

of Cherkassov, L.M., and ?avlo-vtsova, N.I., both
pub-

lished in the book: Questions of Theory Lnd Practice

in Poundry Production", printed at Sverdlovsk in
1956,

Sources of Saturation with Sulphur of Die Surfaces
and from the work of Yikolaychik, N.P., "Increasing
the Service Life of Casting Molds', published '-Te-
tallurgizdat in 1956. During his experiments the lat-
ter decreased the sulphuric contents of the metal from
0,081-4 in the center or heart to 0,04"f~ in.the outer
layer of the surface. The authors have.usedthese scien-
tific papers as a basis and have made further experi-
ments. During these experiments they found that, when
working with casting moldsmade of cast iron, the sul-
phur was not present any more in the outer layer of the
surface after using the die 700 times. ','Then using a
water-cooled casting die the s*huric contents ..,.as
still traceable after 900 pourings as no contact .vas
possible with the liqui6 metal. Conclusion: Sulp~iur
appears in the upper layer of the surface of tl-e cas-
ting-mold only during the process of pouring.and only
under the influence of the molten metal. This dispro-
v'es of hypothesis that the saturation with sulphur ori-

Sources of Saturation with Sulphur of Die Surfaces
As a protection against additional formation of
sulphur the use of paint is suggested. Such paint
should form a resistivecombination with the sulphur
and should prevent the penetration -P the sulphur in-
to the metallic structure of themold surface. For the
development of such protective pain-us against sulphur
research work is requested. There are 3 photographs,

ABSTRACT: The emission of neutrons from high-energy interactions
was studied by scanning 32jOOO photographs (f .rom the 80-cm
horizontal:
beam camera) exposed to the 10-Bev w-, beam of the CERN
accelerator$
To eliminate most of the background, events were checked against
the
following criterias 1) The angle of emission of a "neutral
particle"._-
did not exceed 90*; 2) the distance r between the star and the
apex~
of "neutral-secondary interaction" did not exceed 7 cm, A sample of
74 stars associated with "neutral interactions" and situated in a
forward hemisphere of 7-cm radius was obtained. Also, "true
events",

and "background" were statistically separated by their dependence an

Abstract I The problem of getting a clear imge and good sound
reproduction in a
television receiver at the siune time is dealt with. A difference of
6.5
megacycles being raintained between the -video and audio carrier
frequencies,
poor tuning results when this difference is not accurate. Directions
are
given for making adjustments in the Leningrad T-2 receiver which will
correct inaccuracies between the two frequencies, and result in good
