Interruption of a Nerve.

Abstract: Reflex spreading of the phalanges of the extremi-
ties can be produced in the mt by suddenly inter-
rupting the animal's equilibrium (by removing the
support upon which it is leaning). Such an un-
conditioned stimulus served as reinforcement in the
formation of a conditioned response to the sound
of a bell. Eight combinations were perforned

by the emergence of inhibitory processes in the
motor analysor within the period of denervation
and recovery. When the posterior roots were
sectioned at the leml of L1-42, the unconditioned
reflex remained, but fatigued mpidly. The condi-
tioned reflex was produced with great difficulty,
and during its elicitation the phenomenon of ex-
tinction took place, the cause of which was the
absence of afferent signalization.

noted. After preliminary glucose introduction, the
amount of I in the muscles of trained rate was
smaller, compared with the control; it remained
the same after the Infliction of RES. Thus, train-
ing removed the changes of adaptive functions of
the organism which usually occur after disorders

Sudden changes in posture or dropping evoke reflex extension of the toes in rats.
This unconditioned reflex is absent after the sciatic nerve has been crushed and
returns In about 8-12 days. Light or the sound of a bell wan uved am conditioning
stimulus, The conditioned ranax cannot be a laborated (luring die dattervation period.
The conditioned reflex pro-i-iut before dcnervation reappears immediately after
reinnervation has occurred, if the reflex was not further worked out during the
denervation period. On the other hand, further reinforcement of the renex during
the denervation period leads to disappearance of the reflex after reinnervation is
completed. Section of the dorsal roots does not prevent the occurrence of this
conditioned reflex. The renex. however, is very labile and disappears during

further conditioning. It Is concluded that the at%sence of afferent signals from the

Abstract: The author found that hyponatremia can be the most
obvious-Bign of complex humoral disturbance in cardiac cases.
Many patients with hyponatremia have increased body sodium and
water and hyponatremia represents a disturbed relationship bet-
ween the water and sodium content in the serum. This disturbance
can be temporary, but if it begins during serious cardiac weaknees
it is probably.a consequence of cellular disturbances caused by
anoxia. Therapy is basically the same as for any other difficult
cardiac insufficiency and is directed toward improved function
of the myocardium and easing of circulation. Supplementary therapy
includes restriction of liquids and administration of potassium
and pronison. 1 Yugoslav, 13 western references.
