between skin layers by means of suction, attempt at
exact investigation of the Nikolski phenomenon DERNIA-
TOLOGICA (Basel) 1956. 112/2 (107-119) Tables 4 Illus. I
The author proposes a method of investigation which makes it
possible by means
of suction to measure the cohesion of the layers of the skin. In
dermatoses, where
a positive Nikolski phenomenon is shown, a blister or an erosion is
produced by
the suction action. The measure for the degree of cohesion of the
skir is gi-.ren by
the intensity and duration of the suction action required to produce
the first blis-
ter or erosion. By this method it is possible to eliminate the
subjective differen-
ces which were the disadvantage of all previous modifications for
producing Nikol-
ski's phenomenon.

Abstract : Extracts from a speech given at the International
Confe-
rence on Vegetable Husbandry (1956). The following tech-
niques for improving the quality of the seedlings are
given: disinfecting the soil by steaming it or applying
chloropicrin, growing the seedlings in pots, supplementa-
ry illumination and regulation of the temperature during
the cultivation of the seedlings. It is recommended that
frequent watering be avoided since they lead to reduction
in the seedling's resistance to insufficient moisture
