TITLX: A piomonet*r for determining..the density of gases at
high presaurAA-And temperatures
PERIODICAL: Pribory i tokhnika.eks-parin*nte, 1961, No.3,
pp.146-15o
TEM This article describes o4dipment which can be used to
measure the compressibility of'g ea "at'pressures up to
3500 kg/cm2 at temperatures up C400 OC with a total error not
exceeding 0.1%. The novel features of the'equIpment are the
high-pressure piezometer and miniature needle valve.
A piezometer described by M. Benedict (Ref.l: J. Amer. Chem.
Soc.1
1937, Vol.59, 22,24) suffers from*& number-of practical
disadvantages from which-the present equipment-in free. The main
parts of the present author's piezometer are a th-ick-walled
bulb
90-mm long, 8 mm internal diameter and*16-m external diameter.
It screws on to a head which carries a capillary tube with a
high-
pressure needle valve. The poodle valve, illustrated in Fig.2,
has a steel needle 1, a sealing mut 2 and a gland consisting of
Card 1/5'

three wetwl riugw,- offe, of coppar--3, !k-n4 two of steel 4.
The steel
needle in ground to fit-th*-inner d-tametvr of the gland. The
shank at the head of the needle in-threaded to fit the
threaded
internal diameter of the sealing nut, The outer surfaces of
the
gland rings are a ground fit in the-;asing. Tests made with
nitrogen at a pressure of 4.2 tons/cm2-and at room
temperature,
and at 3.5 tons/cm2-and tsmperatur*~of 400 oC, gave
satisfactory
results. Still higher values could-no doubt be obtained if
other
grades of heat-resisting steel were*uswd in the construction.
The volume of the piezometer is aborut.5 at; it was carefully
calibrated with carbon tetrachloride. In carrying out tests
the
piezometer is contained in a hollow copper-block which is
within
a 300 W heat-Ing furnace. For purposes'of weighing, the
piezometer
is suspended by a wire from the arm of an analytical balance
which
is an a bench above the furnace. The piezometer can thus be
weighed without withdrawing it from the furnace. The
arrangements
that are made to fill the piezometer with clean San and to
measure the pressure on a standard manometer call for no
comment.
The following formula in used to calculate the change in
volume

An expression in also given for the change in volume due to
pressure but when this was checked experimentally by a procedure
which In described it was found to be in error. This can be seen-
from the curve of FIS-5, whore the volume change agr a function
of
pressure at temperatures of 21, go and '1417 *C in plotted in
tons/cU2 as curve a. Curve b corresponds to'the formula used,
which in evidently inaccurate. The toat procedure in as follows.
The piezometer in-heated to,the test temperature, then filled
with
compressed gas and allow4d to stand connected to the gas supply
with-the-valVa open, for 20'-30 minute* to equaline the pressure
and
temperaturt~. The piezometer in theiv, disconnected from the high-
pressure gas supply with the needle'valve'elosed-and-is weighed.
The gas is, then rwleaxed'and it in, we-ighed -again. The volume
and
weights of gas-bolng accurately known-under the given conditions
of
temperature and pressure, the density and other characteristics
can be calculated.

ABSTRACT: An Author Certificate has been issued for a device
which adds distributed

signals. The device consists of binar
switches. To reduce the nimber of incorrectly received signals
the device cont.-Lins a
reversibel counter", coincidence circuits, and inverters, The
output of the first
.coincidence circuit is connected to the Inputs of the se~,ond
and third. The second
.inputs o~ the second and third coincidence circuits conncct~to
the first and second
outnuts of the reversible counter. The output of the second
coincidence circuit
joins the input of the first control switch, and the output of.
the third control
circuit feeds into the input of the second control switch. 'rhe
output of the first
data analyzer is connected, through the first inverter, to the
first input of the
reversible counter; the output of the second data analyzer is
connected, tbrough the
second inverter, to the second input of the reversible counter.

In view of the fact that treatment with sulphonami-les proved
ineffer-.tive in some
of the cases of dysentery, a silver-containing preparation was
administered as an
enema in a 1 to 2/o aqueous solution for 3 days in succession. In
neglested chronic
forms this treatment was repeated. Its effect was particularly
striking in casea
in which other methods had failed. Salamun - Koper (XX, 6, 2, 7)

the combined action of biomycin and vaccine on brucellosis and
chronic

in connec-

had prevJ--

preparations were given-
blomycin combined with Chernokhvostov vaccine. The article gives
