Abstract: The purpose of the test was the effect of a single
ad '1-7Eration of Phenoha--man [a Czechoslovak product] and

KicLmide on patients suffering from depressive states and the
exclusion of a group of depressive states in which a defect
in the metabolism of biogenous amines would play an important
pat'~iof,nnous role. Some preliminary results are given of the
ter:ty L-,,cluding the absence of a mutual dependence between
t-he efl-~'cct of Phenoharman and Niamide.

Abstract: A differentiation of psychogenic and endogenous de-
pression was attempted by observing motor activity by means
of repeated pressing of a dynamometer. Because the repeated
pressing hurt the palm of the hand, the method is complex, and
represents a volitional effort. 24 women patients with endogen-
ous depression ond 24 with psychogenic depression were studied;
the only difference between the 2 groups was that psychogenic
depressives responded better to encouragement d"ring the perfor-
mance of the t?sk, Indicating a better contact with the environ-

Abstract: A comparison between diazepoxide (Librium Roche)
and
Wl-a-zepam (Valium) was made in an investigation conducted
on 37
hospitalized patients ( 20 nourasthGnias 12 depressive
neuroses,
4 anxious neuroses, and 1 mixed neurosisi. 10 mg of Valium
and 30
mg of Librium were used as one dose. An imprcivomient was
achieved
with both drugs, but a deterioration occurred with the
placebo.
Valium acts better on neuroses than librium. The
anxiolytic affect
of both drugs was the same. No references. Submitted at

Three cases. 2 suicidal, I accidental. of acute
intoxication after swallowing a
solution of trichloroethylene ('TRI') are
described. One patient, a 20-year-old man,
died 3 days after drinking a quantity or TRI.
The clinical picture was dominated by
cerebral and pulmonary oedema, then cardiac
insufficiency and acute nephritis
with uracmia (histopathological changes mostly
affecting tubuli contorti) and finally
bronchopneumonia developed. The 2nd patient.
who swallowed about 20 ml. of the
solution was unconscious for 40 hr. with
symptoms of pulmonary oedema; the 3rd
had mild intoxication and lost consciousness
for n few hours, Both recovered,
Strychnine. caffeine, euphylline,
strophantivin. oxygen and penicillin were used
as

II. The results are presented which pertain to the
comparative experiments with a few varieties of HS
contain-
ing I, concerning their effect upon Pediculuc humanus
ves-
timenti immediately after the preparation of HS and
after
18, 32 and 58 weeks. It was established that IM with a
7% content of I, maintain their insecticidal
properties for
not less than one year. The insecticidal action of HS
does
not depend on the nature of the solvent for I. It was
pointed out that laundry washed with HS or an emulsion
with I maintains protective action for 6 months.
