region of absorption of their first harmonics (6000-7300 cm-1). The
measurements in the harmonic region were nocossary in ordor to avoid
confusion due to possible deacmposition of certain (Isl) molecular
compounds. The measurements were made using an IRS-11 Bpectrmeter.
In the region 3500-3800 cm-1 a two-beam IKS-2 spectrometer war, also
used. For measurements on corrosive liquids a special cell vas made
of t-oflon (Fig 1). This was used to measure the absorption in the
fundamental fracDxency region. In measurements of absorption In the
harxonic region a glass call was used. BF3 -was obtained by the method
de5crib&J in Ref 1. Synthesis of molecular compounds was carried oat
in vacuum. A known amount of the additive was placed into the reaction
vessel and frozen. The vessel was pumped out ani then filled with
an appropriate amoant of BF.3. Fig 2 shcma the absorption spectra of
the molazalar compounds BF3.2CUPH, BF3-2GZH15M, BF3.2HZO (curves 1,
2 and 3 respectively) In the region 2400-3800 am-1. Fig Z show3 the
absorption spectra of all the six molecular compa-,rAr, studied, in the

ABSTRACT: This is a condensation of the paper which was published
un4r the above subtitle 11r 1 in the "Izventiya Akademii
nauk SSSR" by A.A.Babushkin. The npr,,ctra of infrared
absorption and of combination dispersion of the coipounds
in question were recorded in the laboratory of the Institut
fizicheskoy khimii Akademii nauk SSSR (Institute of
Phynical Chemistry AS USSR). Tho field of force and the
vibration spectra were computed by I.F.Kovalov. Tho com-
putatiorewere based upon the model C 3D for F 3B.11113 and
Card 1/2 upon the model C 3 for F 3 B.11H2D and F 3MTHD 2- The npectrum

Some Complex Compounds. 1. Molecular Compounds P3B.ITH3and P3B.11D3
of the two last mentioned substances served as control.
The results of the computation of the vibration spectra
of F B NH and of its deutero derivatives, their inter-
pretation3and that of the computation of the potential
function were considered to be satisfactory. The value
of the force constant of the bond B-N, which equals
4,4-io5 dyn cm 1 indicates a sufficient strength. The
activity in the spectrum of combination dispersion
corresponding to the vibrations of the B-N bond indicates
a covalent nature of this bond.

ABSTRACT: The author says that a certain regularity of recur-
rence of landsliding processes can be established

proposes the following mathematical method of calcu-
lation of the duration of a landsliding cyclo. A
volume W of rocks is brought down during a complete
landsliding cycle. Given a constant height H of the
plateau, a horizontal occurrence of beds, and the
same average inclination of the slope,

If the average speed of retreat of the ridge of the

Applying these formulas to the periodical landslides
observed for many years on the Black Sea coast near
Odessa, the author found that the average duration
of a landsliding cycle (T) is 40 years. The observa-
tions of G.N. Aksentlyev and the considerations of
I.D. Androsov are quoted in this connection. The
periodicity of landsliding processes when they occur
in many places of a large region can be established

numerous data of accarreane of such processes. Their
periodicity is connected in time with reversible os-
cillations of the stability factor of slopes. The
periods of possibility of landsliding dislocations
can be of various duration. An annual periodicity
depends on the average annual temperature and on the
amount of rainfall, or on the degree of humidity. A
monthly and daily periodicity (as yet almost unknown)
depends on the combined action of solar and lurar,force
of attraction and of -terrestrial gravity, and on ti-
dal activity. This combined force creates the oscil-
lation of the gravity magnitude which acts on rocks
forming the slopes. The amplitude of gravity oscil-
lation is about 0.120%. It reaches its maximum at
midnight, and its minimum - at midday., thus creating
a corresponding oscill;ation of the stability factor
of the slopes. The tidal action also adds more
shearing stress of compression and extension. The
observations of landslides gathered during many

Geology and Conservation of Mineral Resources of the
USSR) showed an 11-year periodicity of occurrence of
landsliding processes, which coincides with a similar
periodicity of appearance of an increased number of
sunspots (Figure 2). There are 2 diagrams and 12
references, 10 of which are Soviet, 1 German and 1
American.
