OClinical Interpretation of Activated EEG Irregularities During Evipan Anaes-
thesia in Mon-Epileptio Psychiatric Patients."
Budapest, Idegryo-eyastati Sramle, Vol XX, No 1, Jan 6?. PQ;',03 )0-430
Abstracts (Authors' Hungarian summary) A correlation is sought between the
activated EM irregularities found In 86 patients and their non-epileptic
psychiatric disease. In the cases studied, it is presumed that organic
cerebral damage and cerebral atrophy of different degree may be the causal
factor behind the chronic clinical syndromes present in the cases studied,
which could be Classified into groups of neurosis, paychopathy and psychosis,
,It is held as non-acceptable to expand the concept of epilepsy to include
these cases In which a pathological EM alone is present without any clinical
manifestations of epilepsy. In this connection, the question of specificity of
the 301zurn potential 13 also raised. Those cases in which the EEG deviation
and PED findings are indicative of a disturbance In cerebral function which,
in addition to personality changes, may appear in different forms in response
to the given pathOPIA3tic factors are classified within the concept of *or-
otathy", 2 Hunnhan..15 Western references.

TITLE: Measurements of sources of~-r~adlat`ion b~ythe methods
of chemical dosimetry
FERIODICALt Radlokhimiya# vs 41 no, 4,4962, 479 - 486
An investigation of,the conditions of measuring the
90 90
energy radiated by flat O-sourees of Sr 4 Y with an activity
of the order of tons or hundreds of millicuries is described.
Tlie authors studied the results obtained using 1) a forro-
sulphate dosimoterl based on the oxidation reaction of
Fe 2+ into Fe3+ taking Place in a 10- 4'to 10-3 M solution of
(NH4 )2 S040FOS0406H 2 0 in 6,8 N H 2s04 whicl; has a well-ostablishad
radiation yield, and '2) a now dosimeter, based on the reacAon
of photo-dissociation of laucocyanide of crystal violet, dissolved
,in an squivolume mixture of dichloro ethane and ethyl alcohol,
The following reactions take place in the latter dosim*tric
system: a luminophor substance K8r,Tl absorbing y- or
P-radiation emits quanta in the ultraviolet region 320 mil)#

Le%tcocyanide of crystal violet partly absorbs these quanta
(%- < 330 M109 and dissociates, whereupon the quantum yield in the
wi~ole range in equal to 1,00 +0.01. The intensity of the 0'
source is determined from the amount of the dye formed. The
experiments were carried out with two flat P-sources of 20 and
10 mm in diameter with activities of 237 and 19.7 mcurie,
respectively. The energy of these sources was detcrmined by
both dosimetric methods* It is considered that both methods are
equally good for assessment or P-radiation sources. In
addition, a comparison of calculated and experimental curves,
representing the dependence of the absorbed energi of P-radiation
on the thickness of an irradiated specimen was carried out.. The
degree of agreement obtained indicated that dosims tric methods
could be used for studies of the distribution of radiated energy
of P-sourcess There are 2 figures and 7,tables.

i. Experiences with 22 patients are describ*dj I I had hepatic and 11 had extrahepalle
block. Of 4 cirrhotics operated an during severe ha*morrhago. 3 died. Of 4 pa-
tients with extrahtpatic blockoperated on during severe ha*morrhMe. ono died. Six
patients followed up for about 4 yr. after operation had no further bleeding. Direct
suture is a reliable method of blocking varicts wW this procedure might be can-
sidered as definitely established. In view of the risks of spleno1renal and portocav-
&I snastomoses direct suture of otsophageal varicos In combination with spite-
ectomy (in Santi's syndrome and In cirrhosis) can be recommended if there are
hatmatological Indications. Splanorenal and portocaval shunts may be indicated if

"States of Exoitation of 6- and 9- Substituted Purinone
aiolo!de Vol 15.,, 110 5o Sep 66P P 420,
Pra,,;uo, Cas:.,os2.ovo-iskq_ _n
Abstract: The addition of a mthyl group, or of riboae on the N in the 9
position of purine does not influence the relative energy of the lowest
]Yin; (fr, 7r *) and (n, 'rl *) statos. The lowat singlets of the 6-
substituted purinds have a (fl-, rr*) characterl no low intensity belt was
~p d on their long-wave side of the abso tion spectra, and their
Ioun , rp
fluorescence has an intensity comn rable with that of the pho3phorescence.
A change in the order ;f the two lowest rr-lr* transactions results in a
shift of both the fluor%scence and phosphorescence spectra towards the
red co2cr and an incre"t in the phosphorescence Intensity. No references.
