TEXT: . The article describes the attempt by the author and
the MVTU im Baumana (MVTU is Bauman) to-construot gear drives with
variable angles of 00 - 900 and 00 - 1800. Two models of the gear drives
were constructed and the approxisate theory of three-dimensional gear
drives, and also the theories of the bevelp lnvolut@ and spur gearings
were employed to caiculato the parameters of the gears. It is stated
that this type of gearing can be used with small loads only. There are

ABSTRACT: Little study has been devoted to the drainage waters
from the fields treated with hydrous peat and to
methods used in purifying these waters of mechanical
admixtures. Lack of pertinent information makes it
difficult to prevent losses of the peat with the
drainage waters and to combat contamination with
peat ooze of water reservoirs and water-distributing
systems in inhabited areas. The present article

Peat Experiment Station of the USSR Scientific Research Institute of
the Peat Industry on characteristics of the waters drained from
hydrous peat and on methods of purifying these waters. TAaese
drainage waters are strongly contaminated by mechanical admixtures
of organic origin. The concentration of these admixtures varies
greatly (500 to 4500 mg/liter and over). Basically, the admixtures
consist of coarse suspended peat particles easily removed by settltg
and of fine particles held colloidally suspended by the water.
There is a specific relation between the sizes of peat ooze parti-
cles and their ability to be suspended in drainage waters. The
concentration of the solid colloidal phase increases with a decrease
in the content of mechanical admixtures in the standing waters of
the hydrous peat. The mechanical admixtures and, in particular,
their colloidal fractton, may be completely eliminated from the
drainage waters by being coagulated with solutions of salts of three-
valence metals (iron and aluminum). A relation was established
between the degree of decompositon and the granulometric contgnt of

Abstract The Chair of Electric Networks and Systems of the
Moscow Power Engineering Institute made a technical
and economic comparative study of various types of
220/127- and 380/220-v secondary mains in large
towns having houses from 5 to 8 and from 8 to 14
stories high. It was found more efficient to use
loop type 220/127-v secondary bank arrangements.
Investments are in practice identical at both Vol-
tages but operational charges at 380/220 v increase
by 50 to 60%, while additional outlays for copper

ABSTRACT- In 1963, several airports were investigated with regard to noise
standards. The physical characteristics of noise conditions in various rooms were
analyzed and their physiological evaluation by passengers and airport service
personnel was studied. The criterion of noise evaluation and the procedure of
measurement are examined. The noise conditions at airports were found un-
acceptable and interfering with the normal working conditions of personnel and with
necessary passenger comfort. This is attested to by the considerable decrease in
aural sensitivity and hypotonia in a great number of airport employees, the pattern
of which follows that of professional disease. [Translation of abstract] [NT)

TITLE: Introduction of the Nephelite 15 Concentrate Into Production

ABSTRACT: Tn the present paper the author describes the efforts of the
collective of the Krasnodarskiy stekollnyy zavod (Krasnodar
Glassworks) to replace the scarce alkali products soda ash
and sodium sulfate. Firstg podzol was used, which Is a waste
product of potash preparation from plant wastes, and in January
1959 a nephelite concentrate, a waste product of the Kombinat
"Apatit" in Kirovsk, was introduced into production. Thus,
it was not only possible to replace 30% of alkali products
but also to improve the glass composition by reducing the R 20
content and increasing the Al 0 content. Thermal stability,

TEXT% The fast research reactor BR-5 and its experimental equipment in
described in brief and some of its neutron spectra are given and discussed.
The following data are givent fuel - plujonium oxide; coolant - sodium;
reflector - thin layer of natural uranium plus thick layer of nickelt
porer.- 5000 kw. The reactor has many vertical and horizontal holes for
technical and physical studies and in well supplied with experimental
equipment. Leypunskiy gave a detailed description of the BR-5 reactor at

the Second Geneva Conference (1958). Inside the core the neutrons have
enerFies of more than 100 kov which they lose almost completely in pasnago
through reflector and shield. In the outer layers of the shield, their
mean energy does not exceed some tons of ev. In the kev range (E.)50 kcv)
spectra were measured for the most important beams and channels. For the
other cases, they were determined from threshold reactions. The soft part
of the spectrum within the reflector was determined from the spatial
distribution of neutrons with E:15 ev, recorded with Coll ro-tonance indi-

activity caused by resonance neutrons (i; n -4.9 ev). The fast neutron
flux (1;_,%t.4 Mov) in the core center was found to be (2-4 t 0-2)-10 14,

and total flux was (0.2 t 0-3).10 . Experimental results zero verified
by energy-group calculations (18 groups). Good agreement between theory
nnd experiment was also found for the channel spectra. The authors

ABSTRACT: The angular distribution of fission fragments during the photofission of
U238 under F'9(P C(pT)O16 gamma-quanta reaction and electron bremastrahlung
radiation was measured. The apparatus used for measuring this angular distribution
is given schematically in Fig. I on the Enclosure. The two U238 layers are of
thickness 1 mg/CM2. All the data were reduced# using mean square fit curves, and
the angular distribution of the fragments was expressed by
wt-p) C 4@-@ e 29".
The gamma-ray source was a thick-GaY 2 C'78'tai 4;6rg.et lri-idiitad by 1-45 Nev protons,
The angular distZibution results were plotted on a graph next to the data of Be
Forkman and S. As E. Johansson (Nuolo Pbys. 20g 136, 1960), The present ourve was

found to lie consistently below the one given by Forkman and Johanaeon because of
tho largo quadrupole component in the total fission croca section in the region of
6 to 7 Mev. I%e gamma-ray electron bremsetrahlung radiation experiments were done
in the 12 Mev microtron at the Physical Problem Institutef AN SSSR. The target was
a tungsten disk of I mm thickness behind which was placed the apparatus for angular
distribution measurement. The results were plotted graphically as the ratios '/bI
C/b versus EM(5 --- Em e 10)- The magnitude of a/b throughout these experiments
lay systematically below similar data reported by other authors, probably becauso o@
