ABSTRACT: This Author Certificate presents a device for spreading powdered.and
granulated chemical toxins (see Fig. 1). The device includes a container with a
worm screw feeder. To produce uniform spreading of chemical toxins itis pro-
vided with a rotary doser made up of paired disks.with ports. The disks are
rigidly attached on a common axis at some distance from one another and are so

TEXT: The authors studied the granulation process of high-titanium slag
dnder large-scaie laboratory conditions. The charge intended for granulation
consisted of a mixture of Ti-slag and petroleum aoke of -0.25 mm fraction. Sul-
fite alkali of 1.12 specific weight was employed as a binding solution. It was
established that granulation of an unpreheated Ti-containing charge with 33%
petroleum coke in a granulator with 500-mm cup diameter and 40 mm rim height, is
expedient under the following conditions: rpm of the-cup - 401; tilting angle of
the cup - 300; amount of binder - 18-2D% at 3:1 ratio of sulfite-alkali and
water. Under these conditions maximum yield of granules of -5+1 mm fraction (60-

the granules at 8000C for 1 hour is sufficient for the evaporation of -moisture

AB5TRACT: An attempt was made to determine the effect of structural changes of
water, effected by various salting-out agents, on the distribution ratio during the
extraction of a series of perrhenates by certain strongly basic solvents. Theo
exttracting agents were ketones, 3,5-dimethylpyridine, and tributyl phosphate. The
distribution ratio was determined radiochemically at various temperatures. The
rhenium concentration in the equilibrium phases ranged from jo-7 to 10-5 14. It is
sholm that in addition to the cations of the salting-out agents, an important contri-
bution to the salting-out process is made by the anions. In the case of negatively

formation of the extractable perrhenate ion and of a nonextractable form of technetium~

effect of concentration of NaOIH and hydrazine sulfate, duration of the reduction, and
concentration of the elements gn their extraction was studied. Radiochemically pure
iso'%ones Tc99, Tc99n, and Re18 were employed, and the activity of the samples was
measured by means of the emitted 0 and Y radiation. The Na0H concentration was found

to have a strong influence on the extraction of technotium from NaOH solutions Cori
taining hydrazine. No changes were found in the distribution ratios for rhenim as the

tJpie of exposure to the action of hydrazine was varied, indicating-that the ionic
smecies of rhenium remains unchanged. The distribution ratios of technetium and
rhenium are quite independent- of their concentration at 5 x 10-4 X and below; at I
r]henium concentrations above this value, the extraction decreases, apparently because!
of the low solubility of its compound in methyl ethyl ketone. Orig. art. has: I

TITLE: The Use of Trilon B in Determining Chromium in Steel
(Primeneni.ye trilona B pri opredelenii khroma v stali)
PERIODICAL:

llavodt3kaya Laboratoriya, 1959, Vol 25, Nr 47 PP 416-417 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The determination of chromium in steel can be made by an oxida-
tion of the chromium to bichromate and a subsequent iodometric
titration. Iron can be bound by trilon B (Ref 1), but some dif-
ficulties will arise in the presence of vanadium. To overcome
these, some hints have already been given (Refs 2,3) which are
based on a change of the redox potential with the pH. In the
present paper it was found out that at pH = 1.5 - 2.0 the bi-
chromate is still reduced fast enough with potassium iodide
(3 - 5 minutes) while the vanadate only reacts very slowly with
potassium iodide. This knowledge forms the basis for the.sug-
Cested method of determination of chromium in steels with or
without vanadiusi, also in the presence of wolfram. A table of
anal-tic results by the described methods of analysis of dif-
ferent standard samples is.given (Table). There are 1 table

TITLE: Methods of determining impurities In metallic cadmium
of high purity
PERIODICAL: Zavodskaya laboratoriya, v. 27, no, 6, 1961, 638 - 639
TEXT: The present paper describes a number of chemical methods for
determining Feq Cu, Ni, Sn, Sb, Tl, and As in high-purity cadmium; the
determination of Zn had already been described in Ref. 1 (P. V. Marchenko.
Zavodskaya laboratoriya, XXVI, 5, 532 (1960)), whereas the-Pb determination
will be described in Ref. 2 (M. Ye. Vdovenko, N. Ye. Spivakovskaya.
Zavodskaya laboratoriya (in print)). For the corresponding determinations,
the authors used semimicro-methods and only purified reagents and re-
distilled water, Cadmium was dissolved in hydrochloric acid in a platinum
vessel. Iron was determined colorimetrically with the aid of the ternary Y
Fe-thiocyanate-diantipy-rilmethane complex which can be extracted with
chloroform. The disturbing Cu and BI are precipitated with ZnS at PH = 4.

with the use of crystal violet from one weighed portion; the difference
in the pH-values in the precipitation of their hyaroxy acids (Sb at

PH - 5, Tl at p1[ - 8 9, and Cd at PH - 7) is used for the cadmium
separation. The follow'ing table was compiled on the basis oi them experi-'
ments made.
