ORG: Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaidzhan SSR, Baku TITLE: -Electrolufftideacence of GaSe single c!1stals pxcited by square pulses -17, no. 2, 1966, K225-K227 SOURCE: Physics status solidi, v. TOPIC TAGS: electroluminescence, gallium compound, selenide ABSTRACT: Using techniques described in an earlier paper (Optika i spektroskopiya, v. 21, 120, 1966), the'authors investigated the electroluminescence of GaSe single crystals pumped by a square-wave oscillator. Plate-shaped samples were cleaved from a large monocrystalline GaSe ingot. The dependence of brightness on pulse amplitude, repetition frequency, and pulse width was measured at 77K. Experimental data show that the brightness increases proportionally to the pulse width. At short pulse widths and sufficiently large values of the repetition frequency the number of injected current carriers is lower and, therefore, the number of radiative recom- binations decreases. At longer pulse widths the number of injected current carriers increases and, therefore, the brightness increases. The frequency dependence of brightness at pulsed excitation differs from that at sinusoidal excitation. The emission spectra at pulsed and de and sinusoidal excitation are identical.- Orig. art. has: 3 figures. SUB-CODE- ZO/ SUBM DATEt 07Sep66/ ORIG REF% 003/ ATD PRESSI, 5101 RD ijkc)~ MOM. This method avoids the difficulty of preparing 'thifi"sAmples and -makes it possible to study the depth of th fundamental absorption ra were measured with a type SS-4 spectro- meter with.quartz optics, in the range.fimm 1.4 to 6.1 ev. ALL measurements were made at room temperature.- To reveal the structure of the spectrum, the measurements were made on the doubly reflected P component of the.polarized radiation incident at an angle close to the,Brewster angle. The spectra obtained are characterized by two maxima in the uv region anda dispersion band in the visible region. The*reflection maxima of GaS occur at higher energies than those of GaSe, owing to the larger gap between the valence and the 'free bands in the former. Several arguments. indicat ing that these ca7stals have the same band structure are presented. 7he reflection band observed is ascribed to the exciton absorption mechanism. The authors thank G. B. With a field strength of 4-103 v/cm, the entire Yrations of the order of 10 .crystal Iminesces. Monochromator measurements show that the emission spectrum ex- ~tends from, 0.585 to I 1j. One peak was found between 0.61 and 0.65 P; another appears at 0.875. The emission spectrum is cut off rather sharply at the short wave end, at ia point corresponding to the forbidden zone of GaSe. Sometimes a shortwave peak was Iseen at 0.592 p. Except when associated with interzone recombination, this peak is ~due to electrons passing from the conductivity zone to centers 0.08 to 0.2 ev from the iceiling of the valence zone. The dependence of brightness an both alternating and di-: ,rect current is linear, and rises with increasing voltage. The frequency dependence UDC: 535.376 : 548.0 r-A 1 P2 L 08878-67 !--A6CINR-: AP-6--0'-259'-68 of brightness is plotted for various voltages. At lower voltages, the brightness at first increases with frequency then remains practically constant. At higher voltages the brightness tends to fall off. The authors thank G. V. Abdullayev for his interest in the work. Orig. art. has-. 3 figuross !SUB CODE: 20/ SUBM DATE: 27Dec65/ ORIG RErt 002, AKHUNDOV. G.7., kandidat biologicheskikh neuk; ISAYET. Raising the seedlings in water is prevalent., but cultivating sprouts on land is also applied. In recent years, the inspissation method of transplanting seedlings haz also taken root, whereby the crop output has increased. la order to obtain two harvests per year) the following method is used: the late variety is distributed in inter-rows of the early variety after 40 days. At the present time, this me- thod has been replaced by the "changeless" (permanent) o9a which consists of setting the seedlings out in the field im- mediately after the removal of the first harvest. Subject.authors made a study of wild rodents in this area in 'an attempt to detect carriers of Q-fever. The work showed that the red-tailed "peschanka", the Persian "peachankall and the brown rat in the area could be affecte4 with Q-fever. In the 2atter case the brown rat is of epidemiological importance since it is often found near human dwellings and around livestock. The brown rat, conclude the authors, may be the natural reservoir of Q-fever virus and may serve as a source of infection. MWROVy MI.; AIUMNDOV) M.G.; SAYAMOVY R.M. This lawfulness appears at all temperatures; the maximum value of q corresponds to 0.01% TlI. The variation in Q with concentration of TlI is explained by the effect of the thallium cation located at the unoccupied ends of the selenium chains. lAbstracter's note: Complete translation.] Card 1/1 RUSTAMOV, S.G.; AKHUNDOV, S.A. Oto-rhino-laringol., Mlosk. 1950f 1 (29-31f Two cas,~s are reported: (1) A female of 39 had the first attack of vertigo at the age 0. 22. Objects moved -from left to right with tonic retraction of h-~-ad and lip to the left. The paticnt complained of a fooling of falling into an abyss and of not owning the left side of her body. Horizontal and vertical nystagnus were present. On the Mlowing day she was drowsy and saw flames on her left side. Inter the attacks recurred four times within a month. The symptoms were c-nsidered to by due to an irritation of Brodman's 39th area (at the junction of the temporal, parietal and occipital portions of the brain). The nystagmus was elicited not by vastibular irritation but by irritation of the oculomotor centre. (2) the second case, a male aged 20, fell from a heiZht of 3 maters and sustained n injury to the right temporal region. ff.~ had horizontal nystagrus and deviation of the tongue to the left. Twenty days later vz,-rtigo was present. On operation, a depression fracture of 45 x 2 cm. was found in the right parietal region, causing changes in Brodman's 39th and 40th areas. All symptoms disappeared after the operation. The author believes that centres for conjoint movements of the eyeballs are situated in the depth of the parietal fossa, and their irritation elicits vertigo and nystagmus. Engineer TITLE: An experimental determination of the density of heavy water at high pressures and temperatures PERIODICAL: Teploenergetika, no.5, 1962, 62-65 TEXT: The VTI has been studying properties7-of heavy water for a number of years and earlier measurements of its density were published. In 1959 a new experimental procedure was devised'to extend the range of the measurements. The procedure was first used to study the properties of ordinary water and this article gives results obtained with it for heavy water, 99.87% D2W.- Density measurements were made on 16 isotherms between 275' and 425*C in the pressure range of 50 to 340 kg/mm2. The test results are tabulated and plotted. Within the range covered'by G.D.Oliver and J.W.Grisard W. Amer. Chem. Soc. v.78, no-3,'1956) agreement is within 0.015%. The sole previous results for high temperatures and pressures are those given by V.A.Kirillin and'S.A.. Work was carried out at the Voesoyuzny*y teplotekhnicheskiy institut In. F. B.,Dzerzhinskiy.(All-Union 11est-&gineering Institute). A new experimental apparatus was constructed. A detailed description of the method was published in Termoenergetika, -no. 1, 1962, 57. A high degree of thermal stability (40-0050, of temperature measurements (0.1 to 0.02C), pressure L+0.01') were W achieved. The maxim= error of measurements of specific volumes of heavy water is estimated 0.2 to 0010%, JM~ogether, 335 values were obtained, including the measurements in the tvo-phase range. The values are given in a table. 'Orig. art. has: 1 figure and 1 table. Card .:1/1/ AKRUNDOV. U.Kh, Experimental determination of the length of beginning and terminal sections in turbulent flow. Izv.
