TEM In order further to improve mass molding in accordance with the
patent (RZhKhim, 1961, 15K262) it was suggested that 0.1 - 1.0% of a
surface-active substance such asa compound containing a sulfonated carbo-
hydrate might be added. Thereby the content of"perlite in the mass can
be increased up to 40 - 65% or at beat to.55 - 60%. The resulting
products have a compressive strength of 10 - 12 kgm/cm2j density
100 - 130 kgm/m3 and thermal conductivity coefficient 0-03 kcal/m,IX-deg.

ABSTRACT: In rate anesthetized with pentobarbital sodium, a drop in blood pressure
was found to arise in arterial kyyo The hypotensive response was not prevented
by sympatolytic, pam5yapatolytic or ganglionic blocking agenth, or by antihistamine,
and antiserotonins drugs. Upon addition of 5 per cent C02 to the bypoxic gas mixtur~e,
the decrease in blood pressure was slightly reduced.

TITLE: Problem of the thermal history of the moon
SOURCE: IVUZ. Khimiya i khimicheskaya tekhnologiya, v. 9, no, 3, 1966t 615-617
TOPIC TAGS., moon, heat conductivity, lunar surface
ABSTRACT: In study of the thermal history of the moon it is customary to
'investigate the dependence of the time of its tcmporaturo regime and -1
:the physicA state of lunar matter during the ontiro time of existonco
iof the moon* The basis for this analysis is the heat conductivity
~equation with stipulated densityp heat capacity and hoat conductivity
ivaluos for lunar matter. The heat flux through the lunar Gurface is
imore than twice as great as the stationary flux obtained at the concon-I
trations of radioactive matter used in same earlier studies. In this
,paper the author considers four variants of the distribution of radio-
,active elements; in additionp -hhereas in many other studies homogeneous;,
-and stratified lunar models are considered separately, horo difforentia-1
-tion is taken into-account in the course of mathematical computations.

apply on the assumption of a high concentration of radioactive elements,.
The outer parts of the moon are now solid to a depth of 600-700 km in
variants I and 1*,, whereas in variants II and III the solid crust now
would be about 250 and 400 km respectively. Full details on this in-
vestigation, aro to be publisKed in the future in Astronomichoskiy

A girl of 16 was admitted to hospital because of headache,- vomiting, loud ringing in
t7W ears, ptosis and strabismus. The eyesight gradually weakened and finally was com-,
pletely lost. Radiographs of the sWI showed a broadened and depressed sella turcica"
with destruction of the processus anterior of the sphenoid bone. X-ray therapy oUthe
skull bad to be interrupted after 8 sessions because of obstinate vomiting and iqcreasing
beadacbe. A rapidly progressive' exoobtbalm6s developed during the stay in the hospital.,
In the 20th month o the disease a turnour appeared. It protruded into the nasal, cavity
and pressed down the palate*. Two biopsies of the nasal cavity showed microscopically
only elements of mucous membrane with signs of inflammation and normal bone trabe-.
culae. In the 21st month of the illness fever and cough developed. The patient died in the
32nd month in a state of severe inanition. At autopsy a giant-cell tumour of the sphenoid',
bone was disclosed, but the cause of death was pbtbisis Horida with mo*ive destruction,
of both lung. The turnour occupied the whole sphenoid bone, extending partly to the,
occipital bone, and in a lesser degree to the ethmoid bone. The tumour was well limita

inducing cancer by foodstuff dyes POL.TYG.LEK. 1957, 12/5
(161-165)
In Poland in the list of permissible foodstuff dyes there are 15 azo compounds,
of which one - butter yellow - was withdrawn from use in 1949. Some of these com-
pounds were considered to be cancerogenic by the international conferences de-
voted to the problem of foodstuff dyes. The author found one of them (chryzoidine)
to be cancerogenic for the liver in mice. He emphasizes the necessity of organizing
in Poland a conference which would undertake the compiling of a new list of food-
stuff dyes and which would consider whether the dyeing of foodstuffs should be
allowed at all. Azo compounds (e. g. butter yellow), administered in small doses
for a longer time or in big doses for a shorter time induce cancer of the liver in an
animal with equal frequency. In view of the enormous consumption in Poland by
children (and by adults) of orangeade, candies etc., as well as other foodstuffs
dyed with azo dyes, it is to be feared that small doses of these azo dyes added to
each other may induce cancer. The problem of application of foodstuff dyes is im.
portant not only from the point of view of health of the population but also for eco-
nomic reasons, as dyeing foodstuffs with dyes prohibited abroad automatically pro.

The authors consider oversensitivity reactions the paramount difficulty in the oph-
thalmological use of antibiotics. To avoid these complications they advocate the
external use of primycLn and penicillic acid. These antibiotics are toxic when used
orally or In injections and so their use can be confined to external application.
Their effectiveness was proved in a series of patients suffering from various kinds
of bacterial affections of the outer eye. Middelhoven - Amsterdam
