LISTY 1954, 9/4 (202-204) Tables I
As autopsy is carried out in all children dying during the first year of life - in
1953 autopsy was even performed in all patients who died under 3 year
a of age -
the- number of deaths due to pneumonia can be established more precisely. Infant
mortality decreased from 40 0/,.. in 1952 to 33.9*/. in 1953 (first half year, in
which the highest absolute figures are observed). More than half concerned neo.
natal death due to pneumonia, in premature children and in infants with congenital
defects. Bloch - Duetinchem (XX, 7.15)

Abstract : The skeleton of children with acute leukemia (166 cases),
chronic myelosis (11), lymphogranulomatosis (25) and
hemolytic anemia (21) was studied roentgenologically.
The chcnsies in the form of lucid intervals, osteclytic
foci 1-nd periostosis were noted in 66110 of cases, first
of all in the re,ion of metephyses, mostly in the bones
of the c'-!1f) distal metaphysis of the femur, distal
met--physos of bones of the forearn and in the bones of
the wrist. In chronic courses, sclerotic chinges were

observed in 4 cosas: multiple sclerosis (2), plety-

On the basis of 3 separate observations attention is called to the dingnostic diffi-
culties of some oedematous states in the facial region. Of these cases, the correct
diagnosis was arrive*d at only after prolonged and repeated detailed total observ-
ation. The cases presented: (1) Besnier-Boeck-Scliaumann disease with skin mani-
festations in the region of the jaw; (2) an inflammatory complication after a tooth
extraction, with the later development of an abscess; (3) hypophyseal turnour with
allergic signs of myxoedema. Attention is called to possible errors In the differ-
ential diagnosis and the importance of complex examination is stressed.

ABSTRACT: The authors describe an analytical process designed tp determine the total
content of sulphur in fuels. The procedure is a modified Eschko *v =ethod. 71he ad-
vantage of the new procedure is that it is equally accurate and at the same time
faster. The Eschkov method is highly accurate (+2% of the sulph4r content which can
be determined), but takes too much time. This applies in pnrt~C*I~Vlar to the gravimecri
determination of sulphates. In order to accelerate the analyticil part of the aiethod,l
the authors replaced-the final determination of sulphites on scales by complexometric-I
determination ofsurplus ions Ba2+ after elimination of barium sulphate or by deter- -1
mining the sulphates by means of benzidine-hydrochloride and alkalimetric titration of
the resulting insoluble benzidirie sulphate. The article describes in detail the two
methods and compares the results to those obtained by the Eschkov method. Both
method6 are easy to apply. The mean error of the abbreviated complexometric modifi-
cation is +1.4%, and of the abbreviated benzidine-sulphate modification, +2.05%. 7he

determination of sulphates by means of benzidine-hydrochloride is particularly ad-
vantageous from the point of view of savings of time. In a series of ten samples the
.savings of time amounted to nine hours as compared to the existing method of deter-
mining the total sulphur content according to tbe Czechoslovak standard CSN 44 1350.
The abbreviated modification of the Eschkov method is reliable when the sulphur con-
tent is 1% and over. Orig. art. has 2 tables.

TEKT: In Hungary is valid the "Instruction for performing mine surveying
operations" which provides for calculating the coordinates of mine triangulation
points in the all-state system with tying the networks to the points of the 4th-
class state triangulation; the coordinates of these latter are assumed to con-
tain no errors. Since the actual position of initial points is determined with
errors, the precision of mine triangulations turns out often insufficient for
carrying out some important. works, e.g., driving workings with faces toward one
another. The draft of a new Hungarian instruction for performing mine survey-
ing operations provides for the formation of independent mining triangulation

A new trend in development of... A001/AlO1
networks. A line connecting two points of the state triangulation, incorpo-
rated into the mining network, is adopted as a conditional base whose length,
for the sake of simplifying further calculations, must be expressed in the same
units in which all directly measured lines in the given region are expressed.
Therefore, the length of the conditional base must be calculated not from co-
ordinates of the initial points, but from the base network one of whose sides
is measured directly with an accuracy of the order of 1:30,000. Problems of
adjusting base networks are considered and examples are presented. It is
pointed out that there is no sense, in adjusting mining triangulation net-
works, to employ exact methods. In order to achieve the necessary accuracy of
a network, it is more expedient to increase the number of measurements of each
angle and improve the precision of instrument centering at the observation
points.

the connecting quadrangle proposed by D. N. Ogloblin and A. P. Belokrys are cri

connecting quadrangle. An example is presented. There are 6 references.
