Abstracti ZEnglish orticle,7 The part played by egg albutnin in the early
development of the Chick embryo is usually reduced to providing in the yolk
a pH suitable for growth (N. T. Sprott, Jr,, J. Exptl# Zool., 106, 1947)- The
question whether other factors of altumin are significant in this period remains
unresolved despite the utilization in recent years of albumin as a culture
medium for chick blostoderm. To clarify this problem the author used a
modification of the Now's method for cultivating chick bleLatoderm. The results
of the experiments, described in considerable detail, - seem to indicate that
1) at an appropriate pH the yolk can provide for thb growth and development of
the blaotoderm but only up to the 2-day stage; 2) necessary for the normal
3-day development of the blostoderm are some factors originating in the albumin
in addition to the hydroxyl. ionized water; 3) these factors are represented by
micromolecular substances, probably peptides or amino acids (H. Walter, H. R.
