AUTHOR: Salun S. A. 5-3-5/37 TITLE: On the Age and Stratigraphic Position of Sanashtykgol Lime- stones of th6 Western Sayan Range (0 vozraste i stratigrafi- cheskoy prinadlezhnosti sanashtykgollskikh izvestnyakov Za- padnogo Sayana) PERIODICAL: Byulldtad, Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytateley Prirody, Otdol Geologichoskiyj 1957, No 3, pp 81 _92 (USSR) ABSTRACTs The problem of the age and stratigraphic position of the so- called Sanashtykgol limestones has been studied and discussed for about 30 years. In the present article the author de- scribes his own observations and systematizes new data ob- tained. He arrived at the following oonolusionst 1. The Sanashtykgol limestones do not represent eith.@r a continuous lithological horizon or a horizon with*dintinctive paleontological characteridtice. 2. Presently, under the name of "Sanashtykgol limestones" numerous bodies of various sizes ars. understood to occur at different stratigraphic levels, and sometimes characterized by diffprent faunaal however, bodies occurring at different levels contain at time@ identical fauna. The trilobite and Card 1/2 aroheocyathus fauna of those limestones are of Lower-Cambrian A AUTHOR:1 Salun, S'A. 11-7-4/23 TITLE: "Porphyry Formation of Folded Regions" (porfirovaya formatsiya skladchatykh oblastey) PERIODICAL: "Izvestiya kkademii Nauk SSSR11, Seriya Geologioheakayaq 19579 No. 7P pp. 49-63, (USSR) ABSTRACT: The article gives a detailed account on tectonic conditions for the forming of porphyry formations. The data presented were collected by the author during field tests conducted at the coastal regions and at the southern sections of the Kras- noyarsk kray and are also based on studies of Soviet geo- logists. Po at the following rphyry formations have been found , l geologic formations and locations: I. Tne Upper Cretaceous and Cenozoic effusions of the Sikh- ote-A.'Linya. For the eastern section of the south coastal region (basins of the Sankhobe, Yaudzukhe and other rivers) the author established the following subdivision: Upper Cretaceous: 1. Sinanchin layer 2. 01@gin range with a) Plagigporphy-ry layer Card 1/4 b) Albite layer "Porphyry Formation of Folded Regional' 11-7-4/23 c@ Quartz - porphyry layer d Orthophyric layer Paleogene: 3- Terneyak range with a@ Porphyrite layer b Andesite layer 4. Felsoliparite range with a) Lower effusive layer b) Tadushinsk layer c) upper effusive layer Neogenic: 5. Sikhote-Alinya range II. UpperSilurian and Devonian effusions of the Minusinsk depression and adjacent mountainous areas. Upper Silurian: 1. -Effusive atrata of the Usinsk depression Lower Devonian: 2. Chelansk range with a) Sandy-conglomerate layer b) Kharadzhullsk layer c) Imeksk layer Card 2/4 Middle Devonia, - "Porphyry Formation of Folded Regional' 11-7-4/23 3 Taahtypok range with a Tolochkovsk layer fl Tao'htypsk layer 4. Abakansk layer III. Occurrence of porphyry formations, according to data mentioned in pertinent literature. Porphyry formations were found: 1.) over vast areas. 2) In conjunction with basic, neutral and acid effusions. 3) Together with certain elements, rythmically appearing in the profiles. 4). In considerable magnitude. 5) In close association with granitoid struct- ures. 6) At minor dislocations of folds with extremely wide faults. 7) At regional angular unconformities separating the volcanogene complex from older geosyncline formations. These characteristics are also found at the Devonian volcan- agene complex of Central Kazakhstan and are widespread in various districts of the USSR, especially in the Far East and the North-East areas. IV. Conditions for the forming of porphyry layers. Granitoid intrusions occur after completion of geoByncline sedimentation and after the molding of the folded foundation, whereby this Card 3/4 process extends over very long periods. "Porphyry Formation of Folded Regional' 11-7-4/23 V. Mineral resources found in conjunction with porphyry form- ationa. Deposits of the following minerals are frequently found in porphyry intrusions: natural copper, gold, silver, alunite- andalusite, pyrophyllite, diapore, corundum, and agalmatolite. Therefore, porphyry formations are not only of theoretical, but also of considerable practical interest. The bibliography list$ 33 references, of which 32 are Slavic (Russian).
