Abstract :An attenuated fixed virus (the first 6 doses) vas introduced
successively into s1mep (25) b-,r 12, 5, 8 doses into the muscles
or peritoneum, and subsequentl~y -the ordinary virus (the remain-
ing 19 doses). The protective properties of the serum were
tested in vitro on 1403 animal; (dogs, rabbits, guinea-pigs,
rats, mice). r1he serum protection vas inversely proportional to
the severity of disease. The aubhors assume that the serothe-
rapy acts by neutralization of virus in situ. The process of

with gastric and hepatic diseases.

Leptospira which are genexally considered anicterogenic (L. pomona, L. canicola,
L. sejroe, and L, grippotyphosa), administered by the peritoneal, conjunctival
or nasal route to white ratis, provoke an inapparent infection with leptospira in the
kidney for at least 6 months, The state of immunity of the infected rat was de-
monstrated by Pfeiffer's phenomenon and by agglutinolysis reaction. These 2 re-
actions constantly become positive 3 to 4 days after infection. The agglutlno-
lysins are monovalent. even in high titres of 1/12,800 to 1/25,600. This reactivity
by strongly specific antibodies renders the white rat an animal of choice for study-
ing immunity in leptospirosis. Cultures in Uhlenhut's medium treated with equa.1
parts of 2% formol, administered by the peritoneal or s. c. route to white rats,
produce a state of immunity vhich Is as intense as that due to the infection. Pilts
are infected in 60 to 95% and swine-herds in 14 to 75%,aith L. pomona. Prophila-,ds
in the latter could be undeirtaken with an anti-L. pomona vaccine, administered in
single dope.

authors suggiast that enceptialitis be declared a reportable
disease to fiteilitate the collection of statistics and the

stract) can be achieved. Good results have
also beenk-obtained with acetone containing 4V,,
H20 and 1% HC1. A solu ion of the sulfates of
Zn and Cu containin6 "M95 as a radioactive in-
dicator was passed through a quartz column
(0.7x 25 em) packed with R-21 cation exchange
resin (grain size 0.3-0.5mrl) which first had
been converted to the H-form by washin6 W4 th
5 17 H01. The amount of solution passed through
the column was taken at about 20% of the total
exchange capacity of the column (54.6 mg Zn and
56.8 mg Cu per gm of air-dried resin). Following
washing with acetone (10 ml) one of the above-

Abstract Observations Of natural infection were conducted on 105 patients (97
- with Pl- vivax, 7 - with Pl. fal-ciparum and one - with Fl. malariae)
and with experimentally-induced malaria in 73 patients (40 - with Pl.
vivax, 32 - with Pl. falciparum. and one - with Pl. malariae). The
duration of infestation with Pl. vivax in various cases was not over
2 years, and with Pl. falciparum - not over a year.

Results are reported of a study of 4 autochtonous strains: Jassv. Mani'lia. Tecuci.
and Bucharest and one imported strain Korea. In the case of the Korea strain
gametocytes disappeared after 12 passages. whereas with the indigenous strAins
they persisted after 66 to 150 passages. All strains showed identical susceptibilitV
to the schizontocides used. Cross-immunity between the Bucharest and Korea
strains revealed a resistance of homologous type.
