TITLE: Some ways of improving the properties of light concretes
(making the mortar porous)
PERIODICAL: Referativnyy zhurnal. Khimiya, no. 22, 1961, 313, abstract
22K335 (Sb. "Stroit. materialy". L., 1961, 21 - 23)
TEXT: The properties of light concretes with porous aggregates
(Y vals = 500 - 1400 kg/m3) and porous mortar produced on the basis of foam
or -formed concrete were studied. The binder was produced from
Portland nepheline or slag cement with activities of 271, 83, and
80 kg/cm respectively. Ground Lugs. sand with gela of SiO 2 served as
silica component. The aggregates were the porous clay filler keramzit,
and crushed native pumice (5 to 20 mm). The ordinary foam or gas-formed
concrete mass was produced from the binder, the ground sand, the foam
or gas former and then filled into the mold up to half its height. The
crushed aggregate was then added to the porous mass. All light concrete
samples were steamed in the autoclave at 8 atm under the conditions 5+6+5.

Some ways of improving the properties ... B101/B147
It was found that light concrete with gas-formed concrete binders has a
higher strength than concrete with foam-concrete binders. This is explained
by the destruction of the cell structure and the densification of the
mortar. It was found that the aggregates can be used in humid and in dry
state. The weight by volume of the concretes obtained was lower than that
of the light concretes of ordinary composition, their cement consumption
was lower than that of cellular-expanded concretes, no sedimentation
occurred during the casting processes, and the costs for the grinding of
the commercial components were reduced. Abstracter's note: Com-,lete
translation.

"Subarachnoidal Hemorrhage, Repeated Five Times. Orifinating in the
Arteriovenous Vessel Conglomerate of the Brain Stem.'
Budapest. IdeggyoFyaszati Szemle, Vol XX, No 1, Jan 67, pages W~-48.
Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] The case of a 45 year old woman is
reported. Within 15 years, the patient was hospitalized 5 times for repeated
subarachnoidal hemorrhages. The case is of clinical interest because of the
good general condition and relatively well preserved personality of the patient
during the times between the individual hemorrhages. The hemorrhage originated
from an arteriovenous aneurysm situated in the upper third of the mesence-
phalon. Together with the repeated hemorrhages, this vessel anomaly may, pre-
sumably, also have played a role, by way of altering the hemodynamic conditions,
in the development of very pronounced cerebral atrophy and extremely severe
vascular changes of arteriosclerotic character. ? Hungarian, 6 Western refer-

Abstract [authors' Russian and English summaries) modified]: Cloatridia were
isolated in three cases of conjunctivitis ( a coal miner, a furrier, and a
child 1.5 years old), One of the strains was identified as Clostridium per-
fringens type A. The two other strains are its variant, formerly referred
to as Clostridium egens. No references.
