ABSTRACTs A comparison study was carried out on the graphitization process
in conventional and magnesium pig iron subjected to tempering
and low-temperature annealing.
Initial white pig iron was smelted in a high-frequency electric
furnace and cast into earth moulds, The composition of magne-
sium pig iron was almost identical with conventional pig iron
plus an.addition of 0.093 % of Mg.
The degree of graphitization was determined by the changes in
density and microstructure of the samples.

values of the elasticity modulus (E), characteristic temperature (9), and the mean
square root displacement of the atoms from the efillilibrium position (PO . Tungsten
and molybdenum increased E and 0 and decreased P?~ in both binary and ternary alloys.
The values of E, 6 and v6ywere 11940 and 12030 kg/mm2, 283 and 283K, and 0.13-10-0
and 0.131-10-8 cm for Nb-10% W and Nb-10% Mo alloys,respectively, compared with
10650 kg/mm2, 265K and 0.138-10-8 cm for pure niobium. Increasing the tungsten and
molybdenum content to 20% in binary alloy further increased the values of E, 0 and

decreased C2.. with molybdenum being more effective. Tungsten in Nb-10% Mo alloys
and molybdenu; in Nb-10% W alloys produced almost equal increases in E and VVI e.g.,
13670 and 13530 kg/mm2, and 0.124.10-8 cm for Nb-10% W-Mo and Vb-10% Mo-W alloyss
respectively; the corresponding values of 0 were 283 and 285K. The obtained data
show that 0 does not alwlys indicate the actual changes in the strength of interatomic
bonds, and that B and P~ are more reliable indicators of the changes in the strength

'Abstracti CFrench article] Several papers have been published during this
century.on streptococcua, coli, and pneumococcus infections which exhibited
oncolytic effects in patients suffering from leukemia. The present communi-.
cation reports on and discusses the course of two cases of lymphatic leu-
kemis following intercurrent infections. In the first case of a 65-year-old
patient, the hemogram seemed to.remain completely normal eight years after
the said infection for which no antileukemic medication was taken. In the
second, a patient of the same a e suffered shingles at a time when his leuco--.
cyte count was about 186,600/= �

illness the count was down to 32,000/mm3, and on the 20th day it hit the
blow of 18,000/mm3. Thirteen months after the shingles infection the count

TITLE: Tungsten extraction by a chemical method from slags of ferrotungsten
melting

TEXT: The authors describe the technological process of extracting
tungsten from waste slags of Fe-W melting containing 2 - 6% W03. The process
is based on the transformation 'of non-soluble compounds into soluble ones. For
this purpose the slag is sintered with 35% NaN03 or a mixture of 20% Na2CO3 and,
15,c,o' NaNO3. Sintering is carried out at 8000C. As'a result Nal'04 is obtained
which is leached out with water. For refining the product 'of undesirable
impurities, 20% CaC12 is added. The C8W04 obtained can be used in metallurgy or
chemical industry. There are 11 references.

ABSTRACT: The effect of vanadium on the elastic properties of niobium
or niobium-4% chromium alloy has been veotigated. Alloys containing
5, 10, 15,(or OZ vanadium were ameltedit
1from 99.4%-pure niobium,
99.5%-2arel v'Wadium, and 99.92%-pure chromium in an arc furnace, in an
inert atmosphere. It was found pure niobium had a Young's modulus E
of 10,650 kg/mm2, a shear modulus 0 of 3800 kg/mm2, a bulk modulus Q of
17,400 kg/mm2, and a Poisson's ratio-ij of 0.398. Corresponding figures
for niobium with-4% chromium were 12,060 kg/mm2, 4350 kg/mm2,
17,330 kg/mm2
, and 0.384. Additions of up to 20% vanadium to niobium
or niobium-chromium alloy increased-E and G and decreased Q and p.
With increasinR vanadium content the values of E, G, and u for both
Nb-Va and Nb -Cr-Va Alloys approached each other, and at 20% vanadium

were almost equal:. E, 13.580, and 13,470 kg/mm2; G, 4960 and 4920 kghM2;:~
M, 0.368 and 0.365. The Q of Nb-Va alloys remains a little higher I
than that of 2Nb-C,r-Valalloy:at Any vanadium content (17,200 and
16,580 kgImm at 20% vanadium). The characteristic temperature
increased from 265C for pure niobium and 290C for niobium with 4% chro-I
mium to 323 and 326C for alloys containing 20% vanadium. Deviations, I
of atoms from the equilibrium position in the crystal lattice decreased
-from 0.138-10 _ 8 cm for pure niobium and 0.132 .10-8.cm for Nb-Cr alloy

Determining time constants of differential thermoelements

TEXT: The author analyzes the response of the differential thermo-
couple placed in a protecting tube and derives a set of equations for de-
termining the time constants of the thermocouple. Laboratory tests were
made with a differential thermocouple in a protecting tube at atmospheric
pressure, 20 to 7000 temperature changes, heat exchange in still air and
intensively mixed water. The results obtained were compared with the theo-
retical data calculated for the operation of this thermocouple in a boiler
temperature control system. Steam parameters of this boiler are about 100
atm at 5100C. Distance between the junctions of the thermocouple was 1, 6,
10, and 14 cm, for each series of tests, respectively. The results show
a considerable divergence between the experimental data and the theoretical
calculations. Thus, the extrapolation of the thermocouple time 6onstants

should be based on the heat-exchange theory in the ordered but unsteady
states. The use of the elementary heat-exchange theory for extrapolating
the time-constant measurements leads to erroneous results. There are 5

Abstract: Ammonia concentrations of Korthof's substrate inoculated
Uy-77117ferent pathogenic strains of various sero]-o7ical groups and
of one saprophyte strain of leptospirae were determined. Ammonia
Was incorporated in the logarithmic phase of the growth; its con-
centration in the subst'rate increased again in the stationary phase
in all the investigated strains. A.spontaneous ingrease in the am-
monia content was found in not inoculpted Korthof s substrate dur-

On the basis of 6 typical cases ur flailey-flai ley's pemphigus. anti ofa case of
vesiculous Darier's cusease for comparison, the nosological position of flailey-
Hailey's pempl~igus is discussed. The important morphological characteristic is
acantholysts, while in Darier's disease the dyskeratotir furmations of the corps
r(inds, anti the 'grains, rank in the first place. llailey-llaileyls pemphigus differs
basically from bullous Darier's discuse through the lack of the typical dyskeratosis.
lialley-liailey's pemphigus can show a great similarity In the histological and
cytological picture with pumphigus vulgaris, but a differential diagnosis I.% easily
poFisible on the grounds of the clinical picture anti the course of the disease.
Ilailey-Ilailey's pemphigus is thus to be regarded as an Independent nosological
