1a The Craiova airport is near the Bariera Bicurestilor, about two to three
kilometers outside Craiova? There are five or six hangars used by
corm eroial and military aircraft. Approximately 50 Soviet bombers and 20
Soviet fighters were observed on this fiela? An increase in Soviet air
force personnel was noted by informant in the tam of Craiova during Narch
19500
20 A new military airport is under construction near the village of Balta Verdes
south of Craiova on the road to Bechet. Thera is a small forest near this
area and informant has seen some Soviet fighter planes hidden in the shelter
of the trees.
36 The Soviets are building dofensive installations outside Craiova in the direction
of Yugoslavia, in the hills near the villages of Breasta and I'.ihaitaQ
Informant observed digj;ing and earthmoving operations in progress .n this
locality, and he saw anti-aircraft guns and searchlights there.
40 There are heavily guarded anmuni.tion dumps in the forests of Balilula and
Radovan, outside Craiova0 They are guarded by Soviet and Rumanian soldiers.
A large now bridge is now being constructed over the Jiul river at Bucovatul.
Two hundred people are taken daily to this locality from Craiova to vrork an
