4. t i.thin two or three months the organization and nG ae_iclature of the

German Armed' Forces., It is said that an infantry regiment, allegedly,
zdth the numerical destmlation 5, will be activated in leis senfels
from the reorganized VP unit there, and from newly inducted personnel.

! Under the expansion program of the Volks?olizei two-thirds of the cadre
personnel, of the VP post in .7eissenfels were transferred to flochstedt

offi::ers as belong~in to the unit. See (Police) Ilawevor., such

(2) The 1st VP I3ereitschaft (arty) is carried in Apolda. L'ereitschafts olizei
units (alert _.aolice) in eimar have not been confirmed. An increase in
motor vehicle stocks, )aarly by Soviet motor vehLicles, was indicated in
news-caner disPatchcs a ad re7orts from several VP posts.

(13 In early July 1950 an untested
source re,'ported that a. secret document of the i' inis try of State Security
stated the build-up of a roc^le's armor by mass inductions and ,military
reorganization ryas scheduled to be corpleted by 1 1ieetember 1950. It was
also ro?,orted in early July 1950, that FDJ functionaries had talked of
the activatimi of a people-s army of 1100,000 Pions, organized into five
army corps to be completed, by the fall of 1950. Since it is ilfpossible
to expand the poorly equipped R,reitschaftspolizei which is now estimated
at 70,000 man to such an extent in so short a time, the information is
considered. an exaggerated, rumor. However, it is true that a gradual but
limited increase in personnel, armament and motor vehicle equipment is
being effected, and that the increased propaganda efforts for the Volks.
poliGei may indicate tI planned build-no of an efficient army,
