Approved For Re#erse 2005/01/10 : CIA-RDP86B00985R'200080003-0 ` 25X1 Z MEMORANDUM FOR: VChief, Product Evaluation Staff/DI National Intelligence Officer for Latin America Director, Office of African and Latin American Analysis Director, Office of European Analysis I Coordinator for ca emic Affairs/PAO FSI Symposium on the Falklands/Malvinas Islands Crisis 1. Although the notice ,John was received belatedly, I took the liberty to talk w' ^~~1 .. -L- - _-` (aiiu auua' vuLai11iny f e notices on a more timely basis). 2. What McDonald had to say about the symposium sounded sufficiently interesting for me to bring it to your attention ex post facto. He noted that it was the first time, to his knowledge, that official representatives of Argentina and the U.K. had sat down and talked together about the conflict. It occurred to me that you might have an interest in having members of your staffs talk with Mr. McDonald about the session. If there is such interest, I think that a coordinated approach, as opposed to a series of separate contacts, would be more appropriate and I would be happy to arrange this, if feasible. 3. Please advise me if there is interest in your component in pursuing this possibility.
