Please let me on behalf of the Commandant of Cadets, BG Joseph P. Franklin, during his temporary absence, extend to you the invitation MAJ Carraway spoke of tentatively. The Military Affairs Club of the United States Military Academy is presenting the second annual Robert G. Keats Symposium on Military Affairs during this coming April. The Symposium is a continuing program exploring contemporary issues confronting the United States Army, seeking alternative views and possible solutions in an attempt to further the professional development of cadets and officers alike. The Symposium's organization comprises a three- session program with presentations on successive Tuesday evenin_g.s; tentative dates are the first three weeks in April with one speaker each week. Each speaker is expected to present his thoughts on the topic and be prepared to answer questions from the audience. A range of speakers is invited in order to present a variety of views and inform the audience of the different aspects j :,Dear_., We are seeking either General William E. Depuy, Ret., or LTG Glen K. Otis for the first presentation on 1 April. Their topic would be an overview of the Army's current training philosophy and TRADOC, the reasons for its creation A~rid how it develops and manages the Army's entire training effort. Your experience as Deputy Chief of Staff for Training in TRADOC and CG of the 8th Infantry Division would qualify you admirably to talk about the problems 0 _j -Y J ns in modern trainin-gtechnol,tay. The speaker to follow you on 15 April would be either BG H. G. Crowell, current Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Training in TRADOC, or LTG Arthur S. Collins, Jr., Ret. who would speak on the current personnel aspects of training, such as the special problems inherent in training the recruits currently entering the Army under the Volunteer System. sort of warfare we anticipate.
