1. This is for missions 1037, 1038, 1039, flown on
25 October 1956. Duration and length of missions were:
1037
7:11
2958 nautical miles
1038
7:31
3007 nautical miles
1039
7:20
2999 nautical miles
2. The results obtained on these evaluation missions are con-
sidered superior. Of particular note is the exceptionally fine nav-
igation performance on these missions. Camera malfunctions, that
caused the loss of some desired photography, have been analyzed and
corrected. However the loss of the premission camera shakedown period
is reflected in our low camera reliability.
3. These three missions plus the two flown the previous day,
clearly indicate to me that the proficiency of air and ground crews
and supporting staff merit combat readiness status for this detachment.
4. Base support, maintenance, supply and security were all found
to be excellent.
5. Altitude was restricted to base plus 15 thousand feet on these
missions. This has apparently been beneficial in reducing the frequency
of flame outs when flying higher altitudes with the engine. 25X1A
An altimeter setting of 29.92 inches was used for the entire routes on
all missions. It is believed this setting gives a more accurate
altimeter reading than that obtained by using local altimeter settings
received at different points along the route.
6. I am exceedingly pleased with these missions as they indicate
to me the training furnished at this site has been thorough and well
absorbed by all participants.
