Nigerian Refinery Operations
The only refinery in Nigeria is in the East near Port Harcourt and
is owned by the Nigerian Petroleum Refining Company in which the Federal
and Regional Governments together hold a 50% interest. BP and Shell each
hold a 25% interest. The 45,000 b/d refinery supplies nearly all local
consumption requirements and exports minor amounts of fuel oil.
Regional consumption of products, nearly all of which came from this
refinery, totalled 35,017,000 imperial gallons in February, 1967. Imports
were less than 800,000 gallons. Consumption by region was as follows:
