Atty. Gen. William Saxbe's
early statements on the
kidnaping are probably
indicative of the future
American reaction to
kidnapings, he said. Our
society cannot tolerate such
crimes for long.
Generally those interviewed
felt that a rash of political
kidnapings would only spring
from the Hearst incident if the
kidnapers were successful.
Perhaps the actuality of the
food distribution could
appease the SLA, or the group
may make further demands
such as the release of the
imprisoned SLA members,
Cafagna. said. But if the group
releases the girl, having drawn
sufficient attention to the
plight of the SLA members in
jail, perhaps then it will have
served a valid purpose, he said.
Perlstadt thinks they
may make further demands like
the printing of an SLA
manifesto in the Hearst papers
or the release of the
Imprisoned SLA and a plane
O for escape.
"One thing is certain, they
will milk this publicity for all it
is worth," he, said.
