Currently serving on President Nixon's Foreign Policy Advisory Board, Clare Boothe Luce has
long been regarded as one of America's best known women. As a playwright, a member of Congress
from Connecticut, and later appointed by President Eisenhower as Ambassador to Italy, Mrs. Luce
has enjoyed a varied and distinguished career. A staunch supporter of Senator Goldwater's bid for
the presidency, Mrs. Luce has also been a fervent partisan for the civil liberties of minorities.
Nelson Rockefeller only recently appointed her to his Commission on Critical Choices for Americans.
We are pleased to welcome her back to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council.

Ambassador Designate Stoessel leaves for Moscow at the end of January. The veteran
diplomat has served previously in the Soviet capital and also as Ambassador to Poland. It was
there he initiated the talks that led to the Sino-American rapprochement. As Assistant Secretary
of State for European Affairs, he is involved in the key Middle East peace talks in Geneva.
As our guest of honor goes to one of the most sensitive diplomatic posts in the world, we
eagerly anticipate his first appearance before this Council.
