I I Called Carol Merliss, in the office of Representative Wayne Owens (D. , Utah), in connection with the referral of a letter fro complaining that the Agency is responsible for his inability to find employment. I outlined briefl almost 20-year fixation on this subject and she agreed that he in all probability was ill and said that we should return the correspondence they had sent us and that no further action was needed. 5. Returned the call of Mrs. Michaels, in the office of Senator Edward Gurney (R., Fla. ), to see what we could do for an unsuccessful applicant for Agency employmentwho believes that his military record may have been held against him. Based on the information from Office of Personnel, Mrs. Michaels was informed that the case had not been sufficiently processed to even get into these areas and that arrangements were made with to intervie 0 25X1 .6. Mr. Brian Harwood, in the office of 25X1A Representative Richard Mallary (R. , Vt. ), called to inquire about the status 25X1 A of the application of F- I After checking with Office of Personnel, I gave Harwood a rundown, pointing out the persistence of the applicant's father in this case, which was all Harwood needed for now. 25X1 25X1 7. Met with Senator Henry M. Jackson and Dorothy Fosdick, Subcommittee on. National Security and International Operations staff, whom I briefed on latest developments regarding the Chinese strategic missile program and Soviet aircraft carrier construction. 8. I I Talked to Jack Ticer, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, several times during the day regarding Mr. Schlesinger's conf irmation hearing. The latest indications are that the entire hearing will be in executive session and Is tentatively scheduled for 10:00 a. m. tomorrow 12 January 1973.
