A tank/assault-gun unit, probably of regimental size, is located
at 32 29 45N-114 00 20E on the northwest edge of the Ming-Chiang Barracks
and Headquarters 45th Infantry Division Northwest 1 3 nm
northwest of Ming-Chiang, China (See Figure 1).
This report provides information on activity which appears related to
the tank/assault-gun probable regiment.
All measurements have been made by the CIA/IAD project analyst.
They should not be construed as being mensuration data compiled by the
NPIC Technical Intelligence Division.

TANK/ASSAULT-GUN PROBABLE REGIMENT

I SUMMARY: (See Figure 2)
The tank/assault-gun probable regiment consists of a probable
regimental headquarters, a barracks area, a tank/assault-gun main-
tenance area, a subcaliber weapons firing range, and two tank/assault-
gun driver training courses.
II DESCRIPTION: (See Figures 2 and 3)
a. PROBABLE REGIMENTAL HEADQUARTERS: (See Figure 3)
The headquarters area, immediately south of the secured tank/
assault-gun maintenance area, contains an "E" shaped headquarters
building, an administration building, eight barracks (150 X 25 feet,
145 X 25 feet, 2@ 115 X 25 feet, 2@ 110 X 25 feet, 85 X 25 feet and
65 X 25 feet), a barracks/storage building, an equipment storage
building, five small storage buildings, one messhall, 13 support
buildings and a probable athletic field.
b. BARRACKS AREA: (See Figure 3)
This barracks area, immediately east of the tank/assault-gun
maintenance area, contains one administration building, four 65 X 25
foot barracks, two 130 X 40 foot probable storage buildings, one
probable equipment storage building and seven support buildings.
c. TANK/ASSAULT-GUN MAINTENANCE AREA: (See Figure 3)
This 675 X 950 foot generally rectangular-shaped area is fence
secured with guard posts at the main entrance and the northwest and
southwest corners of the installation. The maintenance area contains
one 100 X 50 foot drive-through, monitor-roofed maintenance building,
one 185 X 50 foot drive-through, monitor-roofed maintenance building;
four 150 X 35 foot armored vehicle sheds, two 100 X 40 foot armored
vehicle sheds, two vehicle sheds (100 X 40 feet'and 80 X 30 feet),
three maintenance/storage buildings (110 X 35 feet, 90 X 35 feet and
80 X 35 feet), 5 support buildings, one administration building, a
possible communication tower, and four grease pits.
A probable T-34 tank, an unidentified vehicle and 3 vehicles/
pieces of equipment were observed on Q photography. Scale of
photography precluded observation of tanks and equipment on other
missions.

d. SUBCALIBER WEAPONS RANGE: (See Figure 3)

This range is approximately 1,000 feet long measuring from
the south road to the firing butt, and contains a range building,
a target materials building and three small support buildings.
A canvas-covered probable T-34 tank was observed at the firing
line on Qphotography. Scale of photography precluded
observation of tanks or equipment on other missions.
e. DRIVER TRAINING COURSES: (See Figure 2)
Two tank/assault-gun driver training courses are associated
with the probable regiment.
The eastern course, on the crest of a small hill, is a closed-
circuit, elliptical shaped training area. Photography of
revealed a slight increase of earth scarring indicating increased
activity in this area.
The western course follows along the crest of two hills and
the valley between them and consists of a series of closed-circuit
courses and one support building. An undetermined number of AAA
and FA emplacements are located throughout the area.
III COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS:
No significant changes were observed in any of the facilities
associated with the probable regiment.
