T TSD/H, 119WO(RID/ARD WASH DIR OPS 266 Folder 548) 12/22/65 Memorandu to President (Truman) fr Robt P Patterson, SecWar, dtd, 22 Oct 45, cites WD action relative to SSU pending report by Sec State on a national intelligence service and the lack of funds to continue SSU beyond 1 Jan 46. Whether liquidation of SSU is to take place must now be decided, Patterson writes. He recommends the President authorize the WD to ask Congress for the money to continue SSU thru FY 46, adding, "if you disapprove this recommendation lack of fund will compel liquidation of SSU, effective 1 Jan 46".
