SUBJECT Mixed Chinese Communist and North DATE DISTR. Korean Infantry Unit in Hwanghae Province NO. OF PAGES a mixed infantry unit of approximately 2,000 Chinese Communist and 1,000 North Korean soldiers was observed at YC-395318, about one kilometer east of Sinwon-ni (N 38-12, E 125-44) (YC-393l) in Hwanghae Province. The majority of the Chinese were equipped with either Soviet rifles or sub- machine guns. Each Chinese soldier had three hand grenades, and each company had one heavy machine gun. Most of the North Koreans were equipped with Soviet rifles, with each soldier having three hand grenades, and each company two heavy machine guns. The morale of the soldiers appeared high. the same day approximately seven trucks loaded with food and munitions arrived at YC-395318) coming from the direction of Sariwon (N 38-30, E 125-45) (YC-4.061+). Chinese Communists and North Koreansl were observed passing by YC-395315, moving south. 1.1 omment, It is not clear whether this unit was the same as the one referred to in paragraph one.
